Employment Officer – , (Full time preferably starting in July 2020)

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the incumbent will provide effective vocational and job seeking skills through an individualized, case management approach. This position will be tasked with completing comprehensive skills assessments and evaluating candidates in order to provide guidance towards suitable employment opportunities and/or training. Regular activities include conducting one-on-one interviews with participants, and develop customized plans for success. This individual will encourage the development of job seeking skills, effective work habits and professional attitudes through monitoring client job searching activities. Other duties involve accurate client record keeping and providing regular progress reports. In order to succeed, the position will include but not limited to, working with staff, committees, stakeholders, participants, potential participants to:

• Interview both on and off reserve Indigenous clients to obtain employment history, educational background and career development goals. • Complete skills assessments and evaluations with clients to determine the interests, aptitudes and abilities of clients. • Assist clients with and deliver sessions on resume writing, job searching and interview preparation as well as other related workshops, as part of employment advising. • Provide instruction regarding current job searching best practices, resources and technology. • Create detailed job search preparation plans for clients, providing support and guidance. • Discuss suitable employment opportunities for clients. • Receive funding requests/training proposals and prepare an analysis of them for the Directors • Interpret program and funding criteria for clients and for potential sponsors, to ensure that the terms and conditions under which the proposals are developed are understood. • Promote and market programs in the region serviced. • Analyze and recommend changes to program criteria, systems and procedures. • Prepare and finalize contracts for approved clients, ensuring that the legal and program requirements are met. • Monitor all approved client-based activity according to the frequency and standards noted in the guidelines. • Liaise with employers to provide for an effective client transitions into employment and working environments. • Assess the need for additional assistance, such as rehabilitation, retraining, financial assistance and refer clients to the appropriate service providers. • Provide established workers with information on maintaining a job or moving within an organization, dealing with job dissatisfaction or making a mid-career change. • Assist clients with establishing strong job seeking skills, positive attitudes and interview readiness. • Maintain an up to date knowledge of current job searching methods. • Maintain accurate client files and contracts. • Conduct three month follow ups with funded clients. • Update First Nation Allocation Reports and Quarterly Payment Reports. • Other systems duties will be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications: Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree in related fields including but not exclusive to Career Counselling or Social Services. Experience in service delivery of labour market programs; or a combination of education & training with minimum of 3 years’ experience in labour market program delivery with Indigenous client’s and working with a client database. Excellent interpersonal skills; a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook; previous experience in working with First Nation clients; Valid Class G Driver’s Licence and willingness for some travel preferred.
