Congratulations on your new match! We are thrilled that you have decided to opt in for connection during a time of social distancing. We understand that starting a new match off through a virtual platform can potentially feel awkward, so we’ve developed a template of conversation prompts to help you begin getting to know one another. How to Use: The first three months of suggested conversations and activities in your match are outlined below. You’ll notice that we’ve designed this template to follow a natural progression beginning with getting to know one another, discussing your different experiences, and goal setting for the future. We strongly recommend spending a minimum of 10-15 minutes each week, talking about the prompts below. Bigs and Littles should take turns leading the conversation each week and always make sure to check in with each other and make space to talk about and express feelings. Note: Keep in mind that this is intended to be a helpful guide and is not required in your match. If you and your Little prefer to come up with your own conversation topics and activities, go for it! Take what works for you and leave the rest. Goal | The goal for this month is to get to know your new Little/Big by learning about their family, friends, likes/dislikes, hobbies, and favorite things, etc. Instructions: Each week review the prompt and have a conversation. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 Song_2017.09.19_01TASCAM Charlie Cobb: [00:41] So the recorders are on and the levels are okay. Okay. This is a fairly simple process here and informal. What I want to get, as you all know, is conversation about music and the Movement. And what I'm going to do—I'm not giving elaborate introductions. I'm going to go around the table and name who's here for the record, for the recorded record. Beyond that, I will depend on each one of you in your first, in this first round of comments to introduce yourselves however you wish. To the extent that I feel it necessary, I will prod you if I feel you've left something out that I think is important, which is one of the prerogatives of the moderator. [Laughs] Other than that, it's pretty loose going around the table—and this will be the order in which we'll also speak—Chuck Neblett, Hollis Watkins, Worth Long, Candie Carawan, Bettie Mae Fikes. I could say things like, from Carbondale, Illinois and Mississippi and Worth Long: Atlanta. Cobb: Durham, North Carolina. Tennessee and Alabama, I'm not gonna do all of that. You all can give whatever geographical description of yourself within the context of discussing the music. What I do want in this first round is, since all of you are important voices in terms of music and culture in the Movement—to talk about how you made your way to the Freedom Singers and freedom singing. -
Come Together
Come Together Genre Record labels should Come Together (maybe not right now, but some time before the conference), complete an engineering-related service project, and put together a hit music video. Artists Come Together should involve the efforts of the entire record label (the ASCE Student Chapter). Presentations will be given by the production team of up to four members. Instruments ▪ Record labels should produce a music video no shorter than 2 minutes but no longer than 3 minutes. Videos shorter than 1 minute or longer than 4 minutes will be disqualified. ▪ Music choice should be appropriate for a semi-professional environment. ▪ Production teams should bring the music video to the presentation on a USB drive. ▪ Music videos should be exported in the MP4 (.mp4) file format. ▪ The music video should clearly identify its title and the name of your record label. ▪ The music video should clearly cite the music used and its recording artist(s). Videos that do not cite the music and its recording artist(s) will be disqualified. Tracks Record labels will be assigned timeslots the day of the competition. Record labels will send their production team to present the music video to judges from “the Academy.” The team will show the music video and respond to the judges’ questions. Time Score – 5% of Total Score Judges will assess the video’s compliance with the minimum and maximum length requirements. Compliance is “all or nothing”. Labels will receive the maximum possible time score or zero time score. Identification Score – 5% of Total Score Judges will assess the video’s compliance with the title and name identification requirements. -

WRITING ASSIGNMENT Record Review You are going to write a record review of an album that is deemed significant in Rock Music. A list of groups/artists can be accessed by clicking on link below http://www.rollingstone.com/ news/story/5938174/the_rs_500_greatest_albums_of_all_time Criteria: Title Page Name, word count, course number, section number, etc. Introduction: Write a biography of the group you're critiquing. This should include the year the group/artist began recording, a list of and year of recordings, billboard chart positions, and any awards, Grammys, etc. www.allmusic.com is a great source for biographical information. Section 1 You will need to include all of the specifics of the recording, record label, producer(s), year, and dates of recording. Listen to the album several times as if you were a record critic and write an overview of the album, i.e. style of music, mood, highlights, lowlights, etc. Here are some things to consider: Is there a unifying theme throughout the album? Are there contrasting themes? If so, what are they? Is there enough variety musically in your opinion? What is it about this album in particular that makes it stand out? Section 2 Pick four songs and discuss them in more detail. Discuss your likes and dislikes as we have in relation to the journal entries in class but you will need to go into more detail. Discuss any other elements you find compelling, i.e., imagery from the lyrics or lack thereof, the use of and/or role of instrumentation, tempos, solos, vocals, etc. Section 3 Summarize your experience. -
