Queen’s Park Today – Daily Report January 27, 2020 Quotation of the day “Peace room.” What the premier’s office says it is calling its logistics office dealing with teachers’ strikes. Today at Queen’s Park On the schedule There are three more weeks left of the winter break. The house will reconvene on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. Premier watch Premier Doug Ford was in Mississauga Friday to re-announce funding for community policing. Specifically, the Peel Regional Police is getting $20.5 million from the Community Safety and Policing grant program, a $195-million envelope the PCs announced in mid-December. In Peel, some of the cash will go towards more neighbourhood watch services, police town halls and “cultural community outreach.” "My message to the criminals that are watching us now: we are coming for you, we are going to find you and we are going to lock you up for a long time,” Ford said at the news conference, which featured a well-armed police backdrop. Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, Attorney General Doug Downey, local PC MPPs and ex-PC leader-turned-mayor-of-Brampton Patrick Brown were also in tow. Brown and Ford had their first official sit-down since Ford took office at the Peel police station where the announcement took place. The pair discussed crime, CCTV cameras, courthouse resources and health care, according to the mayor. “I appreciate the cooperative tone,” Brown tweeted, alongside a “prayer hands” emoji. Ford defended the decision to appoint Toronto police constable Randall Arsenault to the Ontario Human Rights Commission, despite the fact he was not part of the official candidate selection process. -

Queen’s Park Today – Daily Report January 30, 2020 Quotation of the day “It cannot take us eight years to open up a frigging mine. Do I hear an amen to that?” Energy, Northern Development and Mines Minister Greg Rickford touts the government’s success expediting three mining projects last year and teases a new red tape reduction bill for the sector in a recent State of Mining address in Timmins. Today at Queen’s Park On the schedule The house will reconvene on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. In the park The PC cabinet held a meeting at Queen’s Park Thursday. ‘I’m a business person first’: Ford teases new U.S. trade strategy Premier Doug Ford and Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Minister Vic Fedeli will travel to Washington next Friday to meet with state governors and other officials in hopes of promoting investment and trade. While in D.C., Ford will unveil the provincial government’s new U.S. trade strategy, which will aim to improve market access and procurement opportunities south of the border that are currently being hampered by “damaging” Buy American policies. “Once we roll this out, we have a way of possibly getting around the Buy American policy,” Ford said in a Thursday morning address to the 2020 Canada 360° Economic Summit. Specifically, Ford said his government is in talks with officials in the state of Ohio to “move forward with a new ground-breaking approach” that will promote job growth in both jurisdictions, adding that Ohio alone represents $2.5 billion in government procurement opportunities that could be available to Ontario firms. -

Queen’s Park Today – Daily Report September 18, 2019 Quotation of the day “It’s like the shoemaker’s daughter not getting shoes. They have to pull me off the ceiling when I hear the stickers are coming off … They didn’t use Deco Labels, that’s why (laughs). But no, all joking aside, things like that happen … we’ll get it fixed. If I was allowed to donate them, I would, believe me, but I’m not allowed to.” Sticker magnate Doug Ford makes a quip about his family company when acknowledging problems with the rollout of the government’s mandatory anti-carbon tax gas-pump stickers. Today at Queen’s Park On the schedule The House is in extended summer recess until Monday, October 28. Premier watch Premier Doug Ford received both cheers and jeers when he took the stage at the International Plowing Match in Verner on Tuesday. After his speech, he claimed the “absolutely classless” New Democrats were the only ones saying boo. The premier also took a spin on a tractor to plow a furrow, as is tradition among the provincial party leaders. The PC caucus was out in full force, clad in matching straw cowboy hats gifted by Bruce Power. Toby Barrett was serving up a raccoon pelt as a staple of the fur fashion industry, and Michael Parsa helped Will Bouma find a missing shoe. NDP Agriculture critic John Vanthof, who represents the Timiskaming—Cochrane riding where the Plowing Match was held, took the wheel of the orange tractor towing the equally orange hay wagon carrying the New Democrat caucus into the festival. -

President's Annual Report 2018-19 Chief Kimberley Greenwood June 2019
President’s Annual Report 2018-19 Chief Kimberley Greenwood June 2019 A Year of Opportunities and Challenges A year ago, Ontarians asserted their democratic right to elect those whom they entrust with the important task of governing. A total of 124 MPPs were elected last June and a new government sworn in. A new government represents an opportunity for Ontario’s police leaders to address important public safety issues. We pride ourselves as being Ontario’s police leaders. We are public servants who must work above politics. That is something all of us – Chiefs and Commissioner, Deputy Chiefs, Deputy Commissioners, senior officers, civilian managers – take seriously. Our role is to provide expert advice that safeguards communities and promotes the well-being of the people we serve. We are also advocates for our organizations and our members. I am proud that the OACP Board and Executive, staff, committee leaders, and subject matter experts who have spoken and worked on our collective behalf have done so with professionalism, honesty, and commitment that is a credit to them as police professionals and leaders. This past year, we have worked closely with two Solicitor Generals, Michael Tibollo and Sylvia Jones, on many issues, some of which I will speak to briefly. We have also worked with Caroline Mulroney during her time as Attorney General and look forward to working with the recently appointed AG, Doug Downey. Additionally, we have worked with Labour Minister Laurie Scott and two Transportation Ministers, John Yakubuski and Jeff Yurek and their staff on many issues. We welcome the opportunity to continue working with Minister Mulroney in her new role as Minister of Transportation. -
