RAJENG/2019/77764 l Vol 2 l Issue No. 325 CONGRESS PERFORMS POORLY IN 5 STATES BUT IN RAJ, BIRTHDAY BOY GEHLOT GIVES A SAVING GRACE TO THE PARTY Aditi Nagar here seldom comes a leader whose politics influences not just the party but an entire region, whose reach is far beyond his own terri- tory, into the hearts of the people of far away too and such a leader can only come when one is genuinely an altruistic person. Today, marks the seventieth year in the life of ‘Marwar’s Gandhi’ Ashok Ge- hlot and even as lakhs of people want to wish him on his birthday, T the three time chief minister has decided not to celebrate it, as a mark of respect towards those who have been stung by the Corona virus and the havoc it is wreaking on Gehlot’s ‘pyaro’ Rajasthan. Handling the Corona situation is itself a tiresome job but amid all this, he has managed to give the Congress party, an ‘oasis’ in the sweltering ‘dry patch’ of electoral politics, where Con- gress has performed poorly in all the 4 states and 1 Un- ion Territory namely of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry , whereas under Ge- hlot, Congress managed to win two bypolls even after political pandits claimed an anti-incumbency in the state. But what might seem to be a moment of cele- bration for several others, does not excite Ge- hlot. The reason: the stalwart considers saving people’s lives much more important than car- rying out political agendas in a crisis. And this is the reason that Gehlot on Sunday, once again called out the opposition parties and Central government to work ‘hand in hand’ in order to weed out corona from the state. The chief minister, just like during the first wave, has again asked the state BJP leaders to voice Rajasthan’s concerns before their bosses in Delhi and help the people, be- cause after all that is what Gehlot’s ‘dhar- ma’ is: Rajasthan, Rajasthan and Ra- jasthan. Even though down with the virus him- self, the Chief Minister is continuously fighting corona on two fronts i.e. outisde and inside, literally. Like the tenacious politician he is; it is sure that he will not give up on the state and has appealed to the people to help him, help them. And why does he take such pains for them? Not because he is represent- ing a political party, not merely be- cause he holds a constitutional office and definitely not because he wants to earn and make a name for himself; but because there is an underlying zeal for the state which in own words goes like this: “Main Thansu Door Koni”...
