OCAD University At-Large Faculty Senator Elections 2016 List of Candidates: Michelle Astrug (Faculty of Design) Michelle Astrug is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Design, teaching in Graphic Design. She is applying for senate because she is interested in actively participating in University governance. Claire Brunet (Faculty of Art) Claire Brunet is a sculptor and Associate Professor in Media and installation art; Sculpture/Installation program and Fabrication Studio Bronze Casting and Digital Processes at OCAD University in Toronto. In June 2014 Brunet completed a PhD degree in Fine Arts, in the Interdisciplinary Program (INDI) at Concordia University in Montreal. Her research work explores expanded spatial boundaries and the influence of a 3D digital and technological context on the artist’s creative process in sculpture practice. Brunet’s sculpture project proposes opposing temporal forces—a 3D digital and technological spatial approach as a mode of production, in opposition to a critical discourse in regard to living species and their relation to their natural environment—which stresses the opposing values of an hypermodern society (Lipovetsky 2005). Brunet has presented projects and papers at conferences in New Zealand, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Greece and Canada. Nicole Collins (Faculty of Art) Nicole Collins is a Visual Artist and Assistant Professor in the Drawing & Painting Program of the Faculty of Art. Since 2004 she has been teaching Painting at all levels including a stream of process-based courses which focus on bringing historical materials and processes to bear on a 21st century art practice. In Winter 2013 she led the OCAD U Florence program. Nicole is the recipient of the OCADU Non-Tenured Faculty Teaching Award, 2011, and the OCADU Inspired Teaching Award, 2014 Her professional practice includes exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Ontario, The University of Waterloo Art Gallery, McMaster Art Museum Hamilton, The Embassy of Canada, Tokyo and numerous commercial exhibitions in Toronto, New York, London, Zurich Page 1 of 3 and Miami. Her work is included in the major survey Abstract Painting in Canada (Roald Nasgaard), the 3rd edition of A Concise History of Canadian Painting (Dennis Reid), Carte Blanche, Volume 2: Painting, and The Donovan Collection Catalogue. Her work is represented in Toronto by General Hardware Contemporary Art. Nicole is currently a Member of OCAD U Senate, and serves as the Faculty of Art Writing Fellow, part of the Writing Across the Curriculum initiative which promotes writing as an integral part of an Art & Design practice. Stephen Davies (Faculty of Design) Stephen Davies is a Managing Director of Transformation by Design, a business design consultancy, and a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) with 30 years of experience. He has led business design and IT-enabled transformation projects in organizational settings across a wide-variety of sectors including financial services, retailing, utilities, government, not- for-profit, and technology. Mr. Davies has a strong track record of successful business transformation engagements. His most recent consulting practice areas are focused upon strategy, business model design, and organizational transformation. He uses visual modeling and design techniques to create agreement amongst broad groups of stakeholders on their emerging future. Mr. Davies is an accomplished Business Architect and was a partner and principle consultant with Chartwell Inc. prior to his move into independent practice in 2009. Mr. Davies is an Assistant Professor at OCAD University where he teaches Strategy Development, and Business Model Innovation in the Strategic Foresight and Innovation program (Master of Design). Mr. Davies holds a B. Math (Honours, Co-op) from the University of Waterloo, Class of 1986. He studied Applied Mathematics and Electrical Engineering and specialized in control theory (solution optimization) and digital signal processing. Mr. Davies is a member of Canadian Association of Management Consultants, and a member of Information Resource Management Association of Canada. He served two years as IRMAC’s Programme Director (2000-2002), a year as Vice-President (2001-2002), a year as President (2002-2003), and a year as Past- President (2003-2004). Mr. Davies is active in his community, having founded the Whole Child School, Toronto’s first holistic alternative education school. Nick Goso (Faculty of Design) Nick is a tenure track Assistant Professor in Faculty of Design, Advertising. He would be a tremendous asset to Senate. Kate Hartman (Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences and School of Interdisciplinary Studies) Kate Hartman has been a core member of the Digital Futures Faculty for over six years. In this time she has successfully introduced a new subject area to our institution, run a research lab, secured funding, served on numerous committees, developed curricula and been a generous and dedicated colleague to all. Kate will return from sabbatical summer of 2016 and her incoming expertise from international residencies will contribute significantly to the planning underway at OCAD University over the next few years. Nicholas Pye (Faculty of Art) Nicholas Pye was born in Torquay, England in 1976. He lives and works in Toronto Canada. As a musician, Nicholas released and toured with four albums in the mid 90's. Moving from music Page 2 of 3 to visual art, Nicholas completed his undergraduate degree at OCAD U in 2002 followed by his MFA degree at Concordia University in Cinema production in 2005. In 2011, Nicholas began working on his doctoral degree in Visual Art at York University. He maintains an active art practice both independently and collaboratively. His interests integrate performance, cinema, installation and large format still photography. Pye has exhibited his work at institutions such as The Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; The Phillips Collection, Washington DC; Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne, Australia; The Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto; The Power Plant, Toronto; The Glenbow Museum, Calgary; The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria; The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris. His work been screened in numerous international film festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival, Canada; The Locarno International Film Festival, Switzerland; and Les Rencontres Internationales in Paris, Berlin, and Madrid. His work has also been exhibited internationally in Art Galleries throughout Toronto, New York, Washington, London, Berlin, and Madrid among others. Page 3 of 3 .
