Exercise in the PAC Let Kirby Pines Help You Keep Your Resolution Monday, Wednesday & Friday FOR IMPROVING YOUR HEALTH! 9:30 am in the PAC Tai Chi Happy New Year! The Oasis is a great place to begin your New Year’s resolution to Monday feel better. Diet, rest, and exercise are keys to better health. Kirby Pines offers many opportunities to improve strength, endurance, balance and cardio-vascular health. Our four 1:45 pm in the PAC exercise classes supported by the Arthritis Foundation include Tai Chi, Arthritis Exercise (Stand and Sit), Water Aerobics and Walk with Ease (an 8 week class that will be offered Yoga Stretch in the spring). We also offer a Yoga Stretch class. These classes are tailored to your needs Wednesday and having arthritis is not a requirement to take a class. 10:30 am in the PAC

If group exercise is not your forte, Kirby Pines has an amazing variety of equipment for a Men’s Water Aerobics small gym to exercise upper body, lower body and improve cardiovascular functions. The Tuesday & Thursday Oasis is open 24 hours / 7days a week. For training to operate the equipment, make an 8:30 am - 9:15 am in the Pool appointment with Mary Hand at 369-7334. Arthritis Foundation Remember to sign up for the Walk the World Challenge! Water Aerobics For the past 5 years, residents of Kirby Pines have taken the challenge to Walk Across Tuesday & Thursday America walking almost 5 million steps each year. This year we are expanding our 9:30 am - 10:15 am in the Pool horizons and Walking Across Canada from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. Participants may begin registering January 6, 2020, in Arthritis Foundation the Oasis. The program will run eight weeks, from January 13th Sit/Stand Class through March 9th. Each week, we will track how many miles each participant walks, or completes on the Nu-Step, Tuesday & Thursday bike or treadmill on their time schedule. (Get credit for 1 11:00 am - 11:45 am in the PAC mile for each exercise class you participate in). If you use your pedometer, on average, 2000 steps equals one mile or keep track on your fitbit or walking app. Record your mileage weekly in the Oasis sign-in book. Everyone’s mileage will be kept up individually and as a group total to see how far we can walk; pointing out interesting landmarks along the way. We’ll have photos along the hike and follow our progress on a map. Helpful tips, awards and surprises for everyone will be handed out along the “trail”. Another benefit will be the reward of beginning and continuing a great exercise habit of walking for strength and endurance. Weekly door prizes and a Grand Prize (two tickets for an Exquisite Cuisine dinner) at the end will be awarded for the most miles recorded. Make plans to join our Walk the World challenge for 2020.

Exercise is a key to a strong and healthy lifestyle boosting energy levels, lifting spirits, improving balance, enhancing immune system and aiding weight loss programs. With such a variety of exercise options, how could you resist resolving to visit the Oasis more often in 2020? Mary Hand will be available to assist you in the Oasis and for medical concerns, call on the competent staff in the Ready For Rehab Center.

tions in the present. Dare we afford to allow what has happened or what might happen to strap us into frustrating failure in the present? Now is the time. Today is the day. This is our choice. We truly only have this moment. Whatever the Old Year may have presented or the New Year offer, we have a new start as our present moments unfold. Someone said the past is gone, the future not yet happening. Now is a gift. That’s why we call it the “present.” Let’s ask God to keep us and it in the palm of His hand and give us strength to use it wisely.

One great thing that transcends it all is mentioned in the text of Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ…the same yesterday, today and forever.”
