The organisers will not be responsible for any accident or loss of property or otherwise arising from any cause connected with the show and it is a condition of entry that each competitor shall hold the organisers blameless and shall indemnify them against any loss, damage or legal proceedings. The Committee, or officials appointed by them, shall be empowered to disqualify and demand the removal from the showground of any animal which, in their opinion, is suffering from or affected with, a contagious or infectious disease. All entrance fees for such animals will be forfeited. If an animal is deemed to be unfit for competing by the Society’s appointed veterinary, they reserve the right to deny entry to the ring and can request that animal/s be removed from the showground. The Society’s veterinary officer’s decision is final.

This Show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK). Affiliation No. 18081. Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS (UK) nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS (UK) to compete. However in order to Qualify both Owner and Rider/Exhibitor need to be a current showing member and present their valid Qualifier card IN THE RING for signing by the judge. Members to apply in writing to CHAPS (UK) for appropriate qualifier card. The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held on 30th August – 2nd September 2018. The following classes are CHAPS (UK) Qualifiers 335 – 339. For full rulings and information on competition/qualification, please refer to the CHAPS (UK) Members' Handbook or visit www.chapsuk.com for rulings. Only Skewbalds/Piebalds may compete in these classes. No stallions allowed.

Veteran Horse Society – AREA QUALIFIER 2018. First round qualifier for the Veteran Horse Society Supreme Final: VETERAN HORSE OF THE YEAR 2018 Kindly Sponsored by Allen & Page. Open to members and non-members. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification.

VHS Regional Final qualification. All competitors placed 1st to 4th in each age category will qualify for the corresponding class at VHS Regional Finals. Members must have their showing card signed by the judge in the ring as proof of qualification. Non-members will receive a red qualification card which can be exchanged for signed showing card when applying for VHS membership. It is the competitors responsibility to present their showing card to the judge for signature. Regional Finals are open to members only.

All competitors are eligible to enter open classes at the National Veteran Open Championships, 29th September – 1st October 2018. No qualification or membership necessary. See VHS website for schedule.

This Show is a qualifier for the RoR AMATEUR Ridden Show Series FINAL at the RoR National Championship Show at Aintree, August 2019. The first three horses will qualify in Class no. 304. The Judge will not ride at the qualifier but will ride in the final. Amateur definition: An amateur is a person who for the purpose of RoR classes does not/has not during the current season or previous season: Engage(d) in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses (for the show ring) in a commercial capacity. Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional Producer's/Trainer's yard (in the current season or previous season). Riders must not have ridden any animals produced by a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season. Horses and riders must not have received any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a show in the current or previous season. Horses must not have been ridden at a show by a rider who has ridden for a Professional/Producer Trainer in the current or previous season. Any breaches of this ruling will be taken seriously and will result in disqualification from future classes.

EQUIFEST This Show is affiliated to Equifest, taking place at the East of England Showground in 2018. The two highest placed exhibitors not already qualified in each affiliated class will qualify for EQUIFEST 2018. Qualify and enter ANY of the Finals Central, East Anglia, North West, North East, South East, South, Wales & South West or Scottish. You do not have to be a TSR member to qualify or enter a final. The Series is open to AMATEURS only – those employed in racing will be allowed to compete. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration. Animals will be required to jump a course of fences, they will immediately be asked to give a short show including a change of rein and gallop in the same ring. MARKS: Jumping 60 points, Style and Manners while jumping 20 points, Show Mark and Manners 20 Points. TOTAL 100 Points. Judges may record constructive comments on the mark sheets. Classes must be confined to Registered Ponies. Ponies must be named on the entry form. A PERPETUAL TROPHY donated by the late R. LINK, ESQ. will be awarded to the WINNER of Class 366. The INK SPOT PERPETUAL CHALLENGE TROPHY will be awarded to the WINNER of Class 367. A test of rider skills and horse obedience through ten tasks you might meet on a hack. These tasks will be in line with Trec GB Rule Book and can be missed out without incurring elimination providing the judge has been informed. Prizes: 1st £12.00, 2nd £8.00, 3rd £6.00. Rosettes to 6th place. Entry Fee: £4.00 inc.VAT per entry. Competitors should register with Ring 3 Stewards between 10.30 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. and will be judged according to the class they have entered. CLASS 365 Rider 9 years of age and under on Show day. Ponies may be led but judging will focus on the independence of the rider. CLASS 366 Rider under 16 years of age on Show day. 18 19 SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP Membership is an expression of interest in and support for the aims and objects of the Burwarton & District Agricultural Society and includes the right to attend, take part in and vote at the Annual General Meeting. Members are admitted free of charge to the annual Show and to the Members’ facilities on production of their membership badge. The Society will make no refund of membership subscriptions in the event of a Show being cancelled for whatever reason.

Society membership benefits include: Free entrance to the Showground, ONE car pass for reserved forward parking in the Members’ only car park, use of Members’ Dining Pavilion and bar area, Grandstand Seating and use of Members’ high class toilet facilities. Guest membership – Members may introduce one guest each to these facilities on Show day on purchase of a Guest Badge at a cost of £10.00 (adult) or £5.00 (child) from the Information Point situated immediately outside the entrance to the Members’ bar area. Members’ forward parking will be available until 11.30 a.m. or until filled. DOUBLE MEMBERSHIP - TWO Adult Members. £38.00 if purchased before 1 May 2017. £40.00 thereafter. SINGLE MEMBERSHIP - ONE Adult Member. £24.00 if purchased before 1 May 2017. £26.00 thereafter. JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP (5-16 years) £5.00 each. DISABLED MEMBERS Limited Showground parking will be available for registered disabled members, provided prior application is made to the Show Manager. A covered viewing area will be provided adjacent to the Main Ring. A limited number of mobility scooters will be available for hire direct from Event Mobility on 01386 725391. Please book early to avoid disappointment. CLOSING DATE FOR MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS IS 20 JULY 2018. Membership applications received after this date will incur an additional £5.00 administration fee for each membership. Membership packs will be mailed out in July.

CHARITABLE GRANTS The Burwarton and District Agricultural Society Limited has limited funds available to make grants to assist in the furtherance of any of the following objects of the Society:— 1. The improvement of livestock, the advancement of breeding and the prevention and eradication of animal diseases. 2. The advancement of science and research in connection with agriculture and rural industries. 3. The development and improvement of crops and prevention and eradication of plant diseases and pests. 4. The development and improvement of agricultural machinery and equipment. 5. The holding of demonstrations and lectures on modern agricultural methods and processes. 6. The promotion of agricultural education and training. 7. The encouragement of Young Farmers Clubs and of activities related to agriculture by other youth organisations. 8. The encouragement of rural crafts and industries of interest to the farming community. 9. The promotion of co-operation between farmers and other land users with special reference to conserv ation. 10. The promotion of co-operation between rural and urban communities. Application for grants to assist projects that further any of the above objects should be made in writing to The Secretary of the Society at The Show Office, Burwarton, Bridgnorth, Shropshire WV16 6QJ by 14 February.

20 HORSE SECTION SAFETY STANDARDS

1. THE JUDGE’S DECISION IS FINAL 2. Competitors must ensure that handlers and riders are experienced and able to control their horse/pony at all times. 3. Competitors must use the official walkways designated for movement of horses to and from the judging rings. 4. Competitors must NOT ride or lead their horses/ponies through designated pedestrian areas; otherwise they will be asked to leave the showground. 5. All competitors must follow designated traffic routes as directed on arrival/departure. 6. Animals must NOT be left unattended whilst the Show is open to the public. 7. No animal may enter the Showground if its place of origin is under health restrictions. 8. All horses entering the showground must have a valid equine passport with them and are advised to be vaccinated against equine influenza and tetanus. 9. Any person riding a horse/pony anywhere on the showground MUST wear correctly fitted protective headgear and ensure the chin strap is properly fastened and adjusted, according to the current standards as listed: PAS 015, VG1, (BS)EN1384 2017, ASTM F1163 04a, SNELL E2001, SNELL E2016, AS/NZS 3838 2003 provided they are BSI Kite-marked or Inspec IC marked. Any competitor not complying with this rule will be disqualified. 10. ALL grooms must wear protective hats meeting the above requirements and be smartly and professionally turned out when in the ring. 11. ONE groom is permitted per horse when in the ring. 12. Riders must be of suitable height and weight for size of horse or pony bring ridden. 13. Horses and ponies may be measured at the discretion of the judges or stewards. Certificates issued under the Joint Measure Scheme of BS will be accepted as evidence for ponies. 14. No substitution of horse or pony will be allowed on Show day. 15. Junior Handlers – all young handlers must be capable of controlling their animal being shown. The animals must be used to being handled and an experienced adult must be present ringside during judging in case of an emergency. The judge has the authority to ask any competitor not having sufficient control of their animal to leave the ring. 16. The wearing of a correctly fitting body protector is advised for adults and strongly recommended for under 16s. 17. No lungeing allowed. 18. In the unfortunate event of an animal dying or being destroyed on the Showground, the owner/competitor is responsible for the cost of disposal and agrees to indemnify the Society in respect of that cost.

VETERINARY PRESENCE: A veterinary surgeon will be available all day on the showground. If, for whatever reason, they may be required please inform a Steward or the P.A. commentator and they will get the vet to you. (Appointed veterinary officers: Severn Edge Veterinary Group Ltd. – 01584 874566).

FIRE: In the event of a fire occurring, immediately notify the Commentators, Chief Stewards and Show Manager, giving exact details of the location. Follow instructions and, in the absence of a steward, ensure that everyone retreats to a safe area away from the fire and clear the approach roads. If it is safe to do so, tackle the fire with extinguishers until the Fire Service arrives. Any directive given by Emergency Services must be followed.

ALL VEHICLES AND PERSONS ENTERING THE SHOWGROUND MUST HAVE VALID PASSES. SPOT CHECKS WILL BE MADE.

CORRECTNESS OF ENTRY DETAILS It is the responsibility of exhibitors and competitors to ensure that ALL information provided on the entry form is correct. Anyone omitting to give the information requested with regard to age, breeder, name, sire, dam, etc of an animal will be liable to have his/her entry disqualified.

21 Rules And By-Laws for the regulation of the Show - Equine ALL dogs are strictly prohibited from all areas of the LIVESTOCK FIELD. In the interests of Health and Safety this rule will be strictly enforced on Show day.

1 Exhibitors shall be responsible for the correctness of their entries, which must be lodged with the Show Manager on or before the dates fixed and published. Entries should be made on forms provided and all horses and ponies must be named. No entry will be accepted unless accompanied by the appropriate fees. Cheques should be made payable to the Burwarton and District Agricultural Society. 2 The Society cannot be held responsible for any incorrect information supplied by Competitors and produced in the catalogue. 3 Judges and Stewards have the authority to disqualify any unruly animal from the show, if, in their opinion, it is behaving in such a way likely to cause accident and/or injury to other animals, competitors, their associates or any member of the public. 4 The Society defines a colt as being an uncastrated male horse less than four years of age on 1 January 2018. 5 The Committee reserve the right to refuse any entry and also to accept any entry provisionally. 6 The Committee reserve the right to withhold any of the prizes offered: (1) if in the opinion of the Judges, the exhibits do not possess sufficient merit, or (2) from any competitor or exhibitor whose entry does not appear in the Catalogue under the appropriate class unless specifically stated otherwise in the Schedule. 7 Any person riding a horse/pony anywhere on the showground MUST wear correctly fitted protective headgear and ensure the chin strap is properly fastened and adjusted, according to the current standards as listed: PAS 015, VG1, (BS)EN1384 2017, ASTM F1163 04a, SNELL E2001, SNELL E2016, AS/NZS 3838 2003 provided they are BSI Kite-marked or Inspec IC marked. Competitors will be notified of any cancellation or amalgamation prior to Show Day. 9 All animals will be considered as being in the sole charge of the competitor who will be responsible for any loss or damage caused by such animal. 10 The Committee, or officials appointed by them, shall be empowered to disqualify and demand the removal from the Showground of any animal which, in their opinion, is suffering from, or affected with, a contagious or infectious disease, and all entrance fees for such animals shall be forfeited. 11 The Society expects all exhibitors to comply with Breed Society rules for showing of animals whilst on the showground. The Committee, or officials appointed by them, shall be empowered to disqualify any exhibitor found to be contravening welfare regulations. 12 The Society, its Officers and servants, shall not be responsible to any person whatsoever whilst entering, on, or leaving the showground, for any damage or loss, however caused to the property of such person, or for any injury, fatal or otherwise, to any such person.The Society, its Officers and servants shall not be responsible for any accident, damage, loss however caused that may occur to any exhibitor or their employee or to any animal, article, or property brought into the showground, or whilst entering, on or leaving, or being carried into or out of the said showground. The exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any loss, injury, or damage that may be done to, or occasioned by, or arising from any animal, article or property exhibited or brought into the showground by him/her and he/she shall indemnify and hold harmless the Society from all action, suits, expenses and claims on account of, or in respect of any such damage or injury which may be so caused or occasioned. 13 No Competitor shall act as Steward in the class in which they compete. This does not apply to Jumping events. No person will be allowed in the Judging Ring except Judges, Officials, authorised Stewards and Competitors. 14 All objections must be made in writing to the Show Manager within one hour of the finish of the event, together with a deposit of £25.00 for each objection, which will be forfeited if the objection is deemed frivolous. Objections will be considered by the Committee, and their decision shall be final. 15 The Committee reserves the right to alter the timing of events, but the order of the Schedule will be adhered to if possible. 16 CHALLENGE CUPS. With the exception of the Perpetual Challenge Cups, all Challenge Cups are to become the property of exhibitors winning them three times in succession or four times in all. Winners must undertake to return all Challenge Cups not later than 30 June, 2019. 17 The decision of the Committee, or anyone appointed by them, in all cases of dispute and on all questions as to the conduct of the Show, shall be absolutely final. 18 All unclaimed prize money will be mailed to exhibitors by 31 August. No prize money or refunds will be paid after 30 September in the year of the Show. All cheques to be banked by 30 September 2018. Any cheques not banked within statutory six month period will be treated as a donation to the Society. 19 Exhibitors are required to abide by the Safety Standards listed on page 21.
