The snow tubing park is located adjacent to the ice skating rink in the resort village with sweeping north-facing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our modern, well-maintained facility features extra-long tubing runs for a fun and safe experience. The tubing area has its own dedicated lighting and snow-making system, as well as a speaker system playing music. The tubing lanes are up to 700 feet in length and serviced by a carpet conveyor, which transports riders quickly back to the top. Sessions take place in two-hour increments with tickets sold on a first come, first serve basis. Once the session is over, head over to the ice-skating rink or take advantage of shopping and dining in the resort village. Lift/slope tickets are not required to access the snow tubing park, or any activities in the ski village. Tubing Requirements: 1. Must be 42” or taller to ride. 2. All tubing participants must have a ticket. 3. No ski boots allowed in a tube or on the tube run. 4. Only one person per tube. 5. Make sure the lane is clear prior to starting down. 6. Exit in the lane you ride. Do not cross lanes, or go behind the netting/fencing as you exit the tube run. 7. No alcohol allowed. No impaired person is allowed to participate in tubing. 8. One must know how to load, ride and unload safely when using the tubing conveyor lift. 9. All tubing participants are required to drag their feet to slow down as they near the end of the tubing run. 10. Tubing may be hazardous. There are risks associated with this activity including, but not limited to: changing weather and surface conditions, speed and falling from the tube, slipping or falling while walking on the tube run area, collisions with others as well as natural and man-made objects, and the lack of control of speed and direction. By purchasing a tubing ticket, one assumes all risks, including the risk of injury related to this activity.     TROOP 349 Falls Church, VA Troop 349 Ski Trip February 17-19, 2018 TROOP 349 Falls Church, VA Timberline Resort is conveniently located in Davis, West Virginia, within 200 miles of Falls Church. The mountain itself measures 4268 feet and adjacent to the Dolly Sods Wilderness area which is on the Eastern Continental Divide. There are ~ 40 runs and 4 Lifts. We have a bunk house reserved that sleeps 20 people. Respond quickly please so we have accurate numbers. We can only go above 20 if we have 30 as they reserve in groups of 10. The units are filled to capacity with bunk beds. It has a shower and one bathroom per 10 beds. There are no kitchens in these units, so we eat in a cafeteria. Snacks are allowed in the units. We plan to leave Saturday AM, @ 7:00, the 17th, with an estimated 10:30PM arrival time. Estimated total cost is $130, depending on any extra equipment rental required or advanced lessons. This will cover meals in the cafeteria, ski rental, transportation and lift ticket and helmets if needed. (which are required for skiing). Beginner lessons are also included in this price. Advanced or personal lessons are extra as are snow board rentals. The troop is subsidizing the trip, reducing the cost by about $100 per person, so this is a great chance to get two full days, and two nights, of affordable skiing in. Scout Bucks can be used for this troop if your scout has earned any, to further reduce out of pocket expense.

    EXISTING AND POTENTIAL SKI AREAS Abstract: Downhill skiing is a popular activity in Colorado. The ARNF receives an average of 1,366,230 skier visits annually. Predictions are that the rapid growth of the ski industry in the 1970s and 1980s has ended and that in the next decade skier demand will be met through expansions at existing areas, with few new ski resort communities being established. A trend evident in Colorado is that larger ski areas tend to succeed. Each alternative provides for the continuing operation of the areas currently operating under special use authorization. Alternatives differ from each other by the number of acres allocated to each of the areas currently authorized as well as by acreages allocated to potential sites. Alternative A allocates 21,685 acres to ski-based resorts, existing and potential (MA 8.22). Alternative B allocates 16,527 acres, apportioned solely among the three areas currently operating under special use authorization. Alternative C allocates 21,544 acres and Alternative E 20,349 acres to develop ski areas. Alternative H allocates 9,101 acres, and Alternative 122,142 acres. INTRODUCTION Developed ski areas are a longterm commitment to the occupancy of National Forest System land. This use was originally authorized under the Act of March 4, 1915, as amended July 28, 1956 (38 Stat. 1101; 16 USC 497.) which authorized term permits for structures or facilities on National Forest System land and set up maximum limits of 80 acres and 30 years and the Act of June 4, 1897 (Ch. 2,30 Stat. 11, as amended; 16 USC 473-475,477-432,551) which authorized annual permits for the land occupied by ski runs and undeveloped portions of the ski areas.

    BUCk H ill - from the website Ploces to see https://ptoceandsee.com/wiki/buck-hil Bre.ndon Maness @ flickr Buck Hill is a ski hill in the north central United States, in the city of Burnsville, Minnesota, a suburb south of Minneapolis. lt is one of three ski areas located within the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the others are Afton Alps and Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area. Buck Hill opened in L954 and offers ski, snowboard, and tubing trails. Artificial snow is often utilized for maintaining the slopes, because while Minnesota's winters are cold, the snowfall is relatively low for a ski area, averaging less than per year. Buck Hill faces east, overlooking the adjacent lnterstate 35. The ski area is lighted for night skiing, and operates three chairlifts (2 quads, 1 triple) and multiple surface tows (trail map). The base area consists of a parking lot and a short strip of lodges. The ski runs use the east face of the physical hill, with the other sides occupied by residential housing, with a municipal water tower sharing the summit. The vertical drop of the ski area is a modest 310 feet (9a m). H istory Buck Hill was named by early settlers, who noticed its summit was a gathering spot for Mdewakanton Dakota to watch male deer (bucks) drink at Crystal Lake. The ski area was started by Chuck Stone, who discovered the sport as a child recovering from polio, and had worked as a lift attendant at Suicide Six in Vermont.
