Welcome/Announcements/ 1. Acknowledgement of land 2. Community Plant Sale on May 4, 10-2, Constitution (south of Community Center) 3. West Side Music and Arts Festival June 22, Sugarspace (132 South 800 West). 4. August 10 - Neighborworks event to help paint homes. Homes are needed. If you know of someone contact Neighborworks. 5. Westside Coalition - has become a 501c4. Mission is to advocate for the quality of life for the residents of the Westside. There are five at-large Board positions open, representing the six community councils on the westside. Public meetings are held at the Neighborworks Facility (500 North, east side of Freeway) every other Friday at 7:15am. Working on filling out the Board positions; Public Market updates; Inland updates. Organizing a mayoral forum for all candidates running for SLC Mayor. 6. Proposal (by Tom King) that FCC provide $200 in start up money to the Westside Coalition. David Hollins seconded it. Vote - passed unanimously.

Public Safety 1. SLC PD Detective Oliver - Dist. 2 representative Stats - Operation Rio Grande (includes North Temple to Redwood) March - 46 felony arrests, (26 drug related); 101 misdemeanor arrests (71 drug related) To date: 1336 felony arrests over 2 years - 51% drug related. Discussion around homeless and criminal elements. Homeless resource centers are being built. There is a bike squad dedicated to just the west side. 1. Fire Earthquake preparedness - shakeout.org/Utah Residents encouraged to have a plan - prepare early There are tips for residents on how to help others, prepare, etc. CERT offering - look at website for next one

Mayor’s Office Report Elaine Navar - Community Liaison Dist 1, 2 and 3

1. Small Scale Development workshop -

Teaches people about doing local development. Focuses on local, from-the-inside community development. Provided a comprehensive training on how to go through the process. Kickoff was April 24 -about 100 people. There were 5 scholarships about a number of partial scholarships. Fairpark’s Jarod Hall was an instrumental organizer in this project. 2. April is Fair Housing Month - designed for single income families. 100K from grant comes from sales tax initiative. 3. Recent hail storm caused massive flooding on 800 West, along with property damage. City is likely to get calls about how to prevent this. 4. Micro-grant opportunity for recognized community organizations - to do community outreach projects that cost money - technology, etc. Application is online. $50-$1500 grands available. Can include training and conferences. Questions can be forwarded to FCC chair Tom King. (Example would be funding a position for translation services). 5. ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) - conditional use permit. Comprehensive overview is online www.slc.gov/planning/

Council Members Chris Wharton 1. $6million fed grant money to neighborhood programs (grant block) 2. Feasibility study financing for Warm Springs - engineering study 3. RFP - agency - study to put permanent public market at The State Fairpark 4. Folsom Trail - allocated some - more to come 5. 3rd north bridge $5million 6. complexes (SROs)- changes to continue to provide a wide breadth of options in affordable housing with this SRO option in a way that eliminates negativity about the concept. 7. Considered a low interest loan of $7million for a hotel behind Union Pacific Station - council wants to preserve the Union Pacific Station - seems to be underutilized currently. Legislative Report Rep. Sandra Hollins and Sen. Luz Escamilla Sandra: 1. SB96 - Medicaid Expansion. Our community overwhelming supported the Medicaid Expansion but it turned into ‘Repeal and Replace’ - both voted against it. But it passed. leaving a gap. 2. All three ballot initiatives became ‘Repeal and Replace’. 3. HB514 - Inland Port Bill - Pulls rural Utah into the Inland Port. Both voted against the bill. 4. There is a lawsuit by the SLC Mayor against the and the Governor. 5. Sandra’s bill, H.J.R.8 Proposal to amend Utah constitution, to take language about slavery out of Utah Constitution.
