How Andre Gurode Became Cowboys' Most Tenured Veteran | Todd Archer Columns | Spo
How Andre Gurode became Cowboys' most tenured veteran | Todd Archer Columns | Spo... Page 1 of 2 How Andre Gurode became Cowboys' most tenured veteran 10:49 AM CDT on Friday, May 21, 2010 IRVING – At times, Andre Gurode admits he will look around the Valley Ranch locker room and wonder where the time has gone. He can point across the room to where Emmitt Smith held court. He can look to his right and know that Terence Newman now occupies Darren Woodson’s old locker with a message about the Super Bowl tradition on its back wall. He can look straight ahead and see where Flozell Adams sat for years. Now Gurode is the old man in the room. Not in terms of age or years of NFL service – those go to backup quarterback Jon Kitna (37 and 14 respectively) – but in tenure with the Cowboys. Gurode is entering his eighth season with the Cowboys. “I wouldn’t say it felt like yesterday,” said Gurode, a second round pick in 2002 after Roy Williams and before Antonio Bryant, “but it felt like I just came here a few years ago. I couldn’t imagine going through the stuff I’ve been through and the years and just all of the things it took to get to this point. It’s like, ‘Wow, it’s really been a journey.’” Gurode was Adams’ teammate for eight years, who was once Michael Irvin’s teammate, who played with Everson Walls, who was a Cowboy with Harvey Martin, who played defensive line with Bob Lilly, the Cowboys’ first draft pick in 1961, who came a year after Eddie LeBaron was the quarterback for an 0-11-1 team in the franchise’s first year. -
Read Darren Woodson's Bio Here
Darren Woodson Bio A three-time Super Bowl champion and five-time Pro Bowl selection, Darren Woodson is often recognized as one of the greatest players to wear a Dallas Cowboys uniform. A native of Phoenix, Woodson played football at Maryvale High School as a running back and linebacker. He attended Arizona State University, where he was a converted linebacker for the Sun Devils and earned his Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies. In the 1992 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Woodson in the second-round (37th overall). Throughout his 12 seasons (1992-2004) with the Cowboys, he earned a reputation as one of the hardest hitters and most ferocious safeties in the NFL. Woodson retired in 2004 as the Cowboys’ All-Time Leading Tackler with 1,350 career stops and registering career totals of 11 sacks and 23 interceptions. Throughout his NFL career, his dependability, athleticism and aggressiveness helped lead the Cowboys to three Super Bowl Championships (Super Bowl XXVII, XXVIII and XXX) - securing him an elite position in the club’s history. In 2015, Woodson was inducted into the prestigious Cowboys “Ring of Honor.” He was also named to the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame (2009) and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame (2017). Upon retiring from the NFL, Woodson joined ESPN as an NFL analyst in 2005. He appeared on “NFL Live” and “SportsCenter” and also participated on the network’s coverage of the Super Bowl, NFL Draft and NFL training camp specials. After 14 years with the network and commuting weekly to Bristol, Connecticut, Woodson announced his retirement in 2019. -

The Mad Scientist NFL History 101: the Trade
The Mad Scientist NFL History 101: The Trade Author : My name is Nick Ficorelli. I am known as "The Mad Scientist of Sports" in the independent sports talk radio world. I am also a huge Minnesota Vikings fan, and I have been asked many times about "The Trade". I could only tell people what happened, but could not tell people the whole history of the deal. After watching the 30 for 30 Short by ESPN, "The Great Trade Robbery", I decided to delve into it further, and well, let's just say it caused the rise of one franchise, and the decimation of another. It was the largest player trade in NFL history, and below is the complete breakdown of the whole deal from start to finish. The Trade took place on October 12, 1989 (can't believe it is 26 years ago, still stings as if it was only yesterday). Believing the Vikings to be only a big-time RB away from winning it all, then Vikings GM Mike Lynn acquired Herschel Walker from the Cowboys and new owner Jerry Jones and new coach Jimmy Johnson for 5 roster players (LB Jesse Solomon, DB Issiac Holt, RB Darrin Nelson, LB David Howard, DE Alex Stewart), and 6 assorted draft picks (conditional 1st & 2nd round in '90 and '91; 1st round and conditional 3rd in '92). Nelson, upset at being traded, refused to report to the Cowboys and was traded to the San Diego Chargers, ultimately returning to the Vikings. The result of the trade to San Diego was the Vikings sending a 6th round pick in 1990 and the original conditional 2nd round pick in 1991, and the Chargers sending their 5th round pick in 1990 to Minnesota via Dallas. -
