Feb. 2 marked the official start of Oscar season in Hollywood, with the Academy announcing their nominations for the 2010 Academy Awards. A notable change in this year’s proceedings is the addition of five films to the Best Picture category, thus giving more films a chance to be recognized. Many will argue that this is merely a publicity stunt on the Academy’s part in an effort to increase ratings for their annual telecast, but either way, it’s great to see a film like “District 9” included with “Inglourious Basterds” and “Up In The Air.” The ceremony isn’t until Mar. 7, so many can speculate as to which films will be awarded.
