The Video Dating Tape of Desmondo Ray, Aged 33 & 3/4, which screened at SXSW 2014 and St Kilda Film Festival 2014, is by writer-director Steve Baker, a previous Tropfest and AFI Award winner. This darkly funny short film portrays Raymond, a loner with a penchant for peeing in the rain, as a likeable, if not likely, dating prospect. Also funny and touching is Love In The Time Of March Madness - a ‘tall short’ about a 6’4” woman whose success on the basketball court is at odds with her luck in love.

From her movies High Tide, The Big Steal and The Heartbreak Kid, to her Froles in some of the country’s most successful television series, including The Secret Life of Us, Love My Way and The Time of Our Lives, her characters’ lives have mirrored ours across the years. The fact that she has largely remained in Australia throughout her career makes this particularly the case. Claudia is the mother of two children, Audrey and Albee, with environmental engineer Jeremy Sparks, and stepmother to his daughter, Holiday.     APPENDIX Lesson 1.: Introduction The Academy Awards, informally known as The Oscars, are a set of awards given annually for excellence of cinematic achievements. The Oscar statuette is officially named the Academy Award of Merit and is one of nine types of Academy Awards. Organized and overseen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS),http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award - cite_note-1 the awards are given each year at a formal ceremony. The AMPAS was originally conceived by Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer studio executive Louis B. Mayer as a professional honorary organization to help improve the film industry’s image and help mediate labor disputes. The awards themselves were later initiated by the Academy as awards "of merit for distinctive achievement" in the industry. The awards were first given in 1929 at a ceremony created for the awards, at the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood. Over the years that the award has been given, the categories presented have changed; currently Oscars are given in more than a dozen categories, and include films of various types. As one of the most prominent award ceremonies in the world, the Academy Awards ceremony is televised live in more than 100 countries annually. It is also the oldest award ceremony in the media; its equivalents, the Grammy Awards (for music), the Emmy Awards (for television), and the Tony Awards (for theater), are modeled after the Academy Awards. The Adelaide Festival films have always been one of Peter Sellars’ pet ideas, and they have turned out to be among his best. With various fund- ing, including $1.5m from the Festival, Shedding Light Director and SBS Independent executive, Bridget Ikin produced four features which pre- miered this week. Three of the four have Indigenous perspectives focusing on Truth and Reconciliation - as does the fifth in the series, Beneath Clouds, not a commission, but a debut feature by Ivan Sen, also shown for the first time. Before the season began there was concern that the films would sit uneas- ily with the rest of the program, adrift from the live performance menu. The reverse has been the case. Because the Indigenous themes of the Festi- val have been so ubiquitous, events interact in chain reactions. Whether visiting Ian Abdulla’s evocative paintings at Flinders University’s Grote Street Gallery, seeing The Tracker a hundred metres further down at Her Majesty’s Theatre, or walking back to the square at night in time to see women from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara lands dancing beside the statue of Queen Victoria, the experiences reverberate. But they also need grounding, something which the strong discourses in the films provide. Rolf de Heer said of The Tracker that he made the film with the context of a Festival premiere in mind.
