Shawn Rawls (Week 1 & 2) Ailey School/Deeply Rooted/Roxy Ballet/Pilobolus (NYC) Jazz * Choreographic Studio * Conditioning/Stretch An Ailey Teaching Artist, Shawn has performed with over a dozen shows and com- panies throughout the United States and abroad including Pilobolus, the Aluminum Show, Abarukas, Ad Deum, Monster Energy Drink and the Roots, Culture Shock, the Roxey Ballet, Dance Crash, Tygo , K-Theory, Son Kiss’d Hip Hop Contemporary and the Chicago Lyric Opera. He trained at Broadway Dance Center, Steps, Peridance, and with artists like Mia Michaels from So You Think You Can Dance, Ravenna Tucker from the Royal Ballet, David Keary of the , Steve Rooks of the Martha Graham Company, Bill Wade artistic director of Inlet Dance Theatre, and Hope Boykins from Alvin Ailey. He received a full scholarship in dance to pursue a B. F. A. in performance and from Belhaven University. He is a 2020 MFA Candidate in Dance at Wilson College. Shawn Rawls is the Founding Artistic Director of Emotional Physical Theatre in New York City. Karen Brown (Week 2) Classical Ballet She is lauded at the highest levels of classical ballet for her exemplary dancing as a Principal Ballerina with the internationally renowned Dance Theatre of Harlem from 1973 – 1995, under the direction of founding Artistic Director, Arthur Mitchell. In recognition of her accomplish- ments as a world-renowned dancer, and her passion for teaching and passing the legacy of dance on, Karen was chosen as a master teacher and adjudicator for the inaugural Dance Theatre of Harlem/ Kennedy Center Community Outreach Residency Program (1992- 1998). Through all of her career and life turns, one of the most consistent callings was a message to help young and emerging dancers achieve their path to excellence. Her intellect and artistic virtue were tapped again as Artistic Director of the Oakland Ballet (2000-2006) and recent- ly as the bridge Executive Director for Garth Fagan Dance from 2016 – 2017. As an Assistant Professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia from 2007 – 2013. Ms. Brown is certified in all levels of the (ABT) National Training Curriculum. Her teaching style is also influenced by her training in the Cecchetti, Vaganova and Balanchine techniques.

Anthony Spivey (Week 1 - 4) Dissonance Dance Theatre Jazz * Choreographic Studio * Conditioning/Stretch * Modern (Horton) Anthony joined Dissonance in 2017. Originally from Mississippi, Anthony began his dance training at Mississippi’s School of Arts and moved to Montgomery, AL to study on scholarship at Alabama State University. Graduating with high honors, he received his BFA in dance from ASU. He’s worked with Jamie Thompson, Roger C. Jeffrey, Thang Dao, Yin Yue, and Alonzo King of Lines Ballet. Prior to Dissonance Dance Theatre, Spivey performed was a guest artist with Montgomery Ballet. He is annual faculty at The Ngoma School, Dissonance Dance Theatre’s official school.

Shawn Short (Week 1 - 4) Washington Ballet/El Teatro Contemporeanea De El Salvador/ Dissonance Dance Theatre/The Ngoma School/Catholic University of America Classical Ballet * Contemporary Ballet * Jazz Choreographic Studio * Conditioning/Stretch * Men’s Class Founder of Ngoma Center for Dance and Dissonance Dance Theatre. Short has studied with nationally and internationally acclaimed artists including faculty and dancers from Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Lines Ballet, Washington Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and more. Short studied ballet pedagogy with John White, Margarita De Saa, and the former Washing- ton School of Ballet Director Kee Juan Han. His performance credits include work with K2 Dance, Adrian Bolton Dance, El Teatro de Danza Contemporanea El Salvador, and Bolton/ Smith. He has also served as a guest artist with Dance Alloy in . Mr. Short is a Founding Faculty member of @THEARC. Shawn is a Pointe Magazine’s Video of the Month Editors’ Choice award recipient for his contemporary ballet work, Caught in 2013. A 2014 Princess Grace Award (NYC) in Choreography nominee, Shawn holds a BFA in Musical Theatre with a minor in Theatre Management from Howard University and an MFA in Dance at University Of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a focus on dance history, arts administration and somatic. Kareem B. Goodwin (Friday June 21st, 2019) 8:30 am - 10:00 am Level I 10:10 - 11:40 am Level II

Grace Dance Theater/Eleone Dance (Philly) Afro-Jazz/Modern Kareem B. Goodwin, a native of Philadelphia, PA began his dance training at the Point Breeze Performing Arts Center in 1998, where he formally began his dance training under Charon Mapp, Wayne St. David, Anthony Burrell and Faye Snow. He attended The University of the Arts where he studied Jazz Dance with an emphasis in Choreography studying under in- structors Molly Misgalla, Donald Lusnford, Andrew Pap, Scott Jovovich, Karen Brown and Kim Bears-Bailey. Kareem is a NAACP ACT-SO Local and Regional Gold Medalist, as well as a Na- tional Finalist. As a performing artist, he has had the pleasure of being in the presence of and working with such choreographers as Christopher L. Huggins, Louis Johnson, Ronen Koresh, Gary W. Jeter II, Zane Booker and Arthur Mitchell. Kareem is the founding Rehearsal Director of Eleone Dance Incorporated, the Studio Company of Eleone Dance Unlimited. He is also Rehearsal Director of Grace Dance Theater 2 and Principal Dancer for Grace Dance Theater. Tony Thomas (Friday June 28th, 2019) 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Level I 3:40 PM - 5:10 pm Level II

National Tour of West Side Story Musical Theater * Afro-Jazz New York-based artist, Tony has toured, performed, and worked as a professional entertainer and designer, scoping a range of television, film, stage, and architecture. Credits include: Joseph in Black Nativity (Theater Alliance), Guys & Dolls (Olney Theatre Center), and the Fringe Festival where he was honored to star as Renell Gonsalves, alongside renowned jazz saxophonist, David Yarborough, in Paul Gonsalves on the Road. After completing the national tour of West Side Story, Tony was featured in A Chorus Line as Richie at the Olney Theatre Center, where the cast won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Musical. As a choreog- rapher, Tony was nominated for his work by the Helen Hayes Awards, for Outstanding Cho- reography in a Play – Word Becomes Flesh. Expanding his opportunity even further, he was honored with the opportunity to work alongside celebrated director Psalmayene24 in his children’s hip-hop story, The Freshest Snow Whyte at Imagination Stage and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown with theatre master, Aaron Posner. Other local guest artist, workshop, and choreography credits include, Studio Theatre, Forum Theatre, Mosaic Theatre, Anacostia Playhouse, Signature Theatre, and Constellation Theatre. Phillip Fobbs (Friday July 5th, 2019) 8:30 am - 10:00 am Level I 10:10 am - 11:40 am Level II

Dissonance Dance Theatre Hip-Hop Phillip Fobbs joined Dissonance Dance Theatre in 2016. Phillip is a native of the Washington, DC area. He began his training Dance Dimensions dance studio. He relocated to Lithia, FL in 2014, and continued training under Victoria’s School of Dance. Fobbs also attended Ngoma Center for Dance’s Summer DanceLab. Phillip was a member of Dance Dimensions’s Pro- fessional Dance Company from 2010 to 2013. Fobbs was the original soloist in Short’s Ben (2017), original cast in Short’s Lose Yourself (2017).
