YOTE NOTES – November 7, 2013 C of I Sports Information Director – Mike Safford Jr. (208) 459-5681 [email protected] SPORTS RELEASE ATHLETICS NEWS: This Week’s Event Schedule NEW BUILDING NAMED HOLLY CENTER: A new $4 million facility supporting The College of Idaho's athletic program will be named in honor of long-time Athletic Director Marty Holly. The Marty Holly Athletics Center, now under construction on the C of I campus, is slated to open late next summer 11/5 MBB vs. Northwest Nazarene 7 p.m. and will be the first new building on campus since the Village Apartments were completed in 11/8 WBB at Westminster 6 p.m. 2002. "Under Marty Holly's leadership The College of Idaho's athletic program has reached new levels of excellence," C of I President Marv Henberg said. "Our student-athletes are recognized VB vs. Northwest Christian 7 p.m. nationally for their outstanding performance in athletic competition as well as their high 11/9 XC host CCC Championships 10:30 a.m. achievement in the classroom." Earlier this year, Holly was named the Cascade Conference WBB vs. Montana Tech (at SLC) 2 p.m. Athletic Director of the Year for the second time in the last five seasons. Eight C of I teams finished in the Top-15 at their respective national championships during the 2012-2013 season, MSOC vs. Warner Pacific 2:30 p.m. including a national runner-up finish by the women's cross country program. Coyote athletes also VB vs. Corban 7 p.m. captured nine national championships – one in cross country, three in indoor track, three in MBB vs. Point Loma Nazarene 9 p.m. snowboarding and two in outdoor track. Last season the Coyotes also had 69 Cascade Conference All-Academic team honorees, 39 NAIA or USCSA Scholar-Athletes, and six Capital One Academic All-Americans. Holly is in his 33rd year at the C of I, and played an instrumental role in the reinstatement of the College's football program, which will begin competition in fall 2014. The Marty Holly Athletics Center will provide training and support facilities for the College's student-athletes, including the reinstated football team. Boxes of Sunkist oranges, Granny Smith, Fuji, or Red Delicious apples, or pink grapefruit, are available for 11/16 VB at CCC Tournament TBA purchase for $22.00. For more information or to place an order, contact head coach Shawn Humberger MBB vs. Walla Walla 7 p.m. at 459-5861 or at [email protected]. 11/20 WBB vs. Boise State 7 p.m. YOTES DEN WITH MIKE MOROSKI: Voice of the Coyotes, Mike Safford, will host the “Yotes Den with 11/23 SWIM at Northwest Invite 10 a.m. PT Mike Moroski” each Tuesday night from 7-8 p.m. and can be heard live on KOOL Oldies 99.5-FM and online at (http://radio.securenetsystems.net/v5/KKOO). The show will feature the head football coach of the Yotes, spotlight student-athletes, recap C of I events, and look ahead to the 2014 football season. Typically, the show will be held at Stewart’s Bar and Grill in Caldwell, but this Tuesday’s show will be held in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center prior to “Meet the Yotes Night”. AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET YOUR FOOTBALL TICKETS EARLY: With less and 11 months remaining before the Coyote football program returns to the field – many have asked when C of I football tickets will go on sale. Though the exact date and price of tickets has yet to be determine, it has been revealed that priority selection to football season tickets will be given to all C of I basketball season ticket holders who are C of I Athletic Association members (at a $100 giving level or higher) – one week prior to the football season tickets going on sale to the general public. KICKOFF 2014: The College of Idaho’s proud football legacy – a storied program that sent four players to the NFL and included a host of successful alumni such as supermarket magnate Joe Albertson ’29 and two Idaho governors – is ready to enter a new era. The Coyotes will return to the gridiron in fall 2014, when the team plays its first game in more than 30 years.. Since the Coyotes played their first game in 1905, College of Idaho football players have succeeded both on the field and in life. As the College prepares to begin its first season of competition in the Frontier Conference, a new generation of student-athletes will be able to play at Idaho’s only small college football program and receive an outstanding education from one of the nation’s top liberal arts colleges. Ottinger was instrumental in the Lady Yotes sweep 10/5 * Warner Pacific W 3-0 of Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon, recording a team-high 28 kills in the victories, helping C of I to just 10/11 * Northwest W 3-0 their fourth sweep of the road swing in school history.
