However, the Committee in charge have been notified that all AED`s in the parish need to be reassessed as they are now 13 years old (purchased in 2008!) At present the committee have been advised that the defibrillators may not work to full capacity. An update will be given ASAP. Davitts GAA: The numbers drawn were 9, 24, 29, 32. These differences will be most apparent when using the train simu- lator. The sign instructing the driver to sound the horn/whistle in Ireland is a rectangular board with reflector or light and black and yellow diagonal stripes. Advance permanent speed restriction (PSR) warnings, as per UK rail- ways, are not used in Ireland, large speed reductions being incrementally signed instead. PSR signs are yellow, octagonal, with black border and the limit shown in MPH. AWS is not in use in the Republic, there being other in-cab systems in force. For the benefit of train sim users AWS has been fitted, although not true to prototype. Irish passenger train drivers do not seem to have the need of signs (3-car, 4-car, S, etc) to tell them the stopping place at platforms as none are evi- dent at Claremorris. Obviously they must know the right place and wish to keep it a secret. Mile posts are of a different pattern to UK types. This railway line closed in 1963. In order to re-open it today many au- tomated crossings would be required.

    Draft Mayo County Development Plan 2021-2027 CHAPTER 2 CORE AND SETTLEMENT STRATEGY 2.1 Introduction The Core Strategy and Settlement Strategy for the County Development Plan has been prepared through extensive collaboration between the Forward Planning team, Elected Members and all relevant sections of the Council. It has also been informed by the National Planning Framework (NPF), the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES) for the Northern and Western Region, the UN Sustainable Goals and the Strategic Economic Drivers influencing the sustainable future growth of County Mayo over the lifetime of the plan and beyond. The challenge is to build on the unique dispersed settlement characteristics of Mayo, in order to provide a balance, link and synergy between the rural countryside and urban settlements of the County. This will be realised through the following vision for County Mayo and the strategic aims set out below. 2.2 Vision of County Mayo ‘To create a sustainable and competitive county that supports the health and well-being of the people of Mayo, providing an attractive destination, as a place in which to live, work, invest, do business and visit, offering high quality employment and educational opportunities within strong and vibrant sustainable communities, whilst ensuring a transition to a low carbon and climate resilient county that supports high environmental quality.’ 2.3 Strategic Aims The strategic aims which relate to the advancement of this vision, are set out hereunder for each chapter of Volume 1 of the County Development Plan. The Plan aims to build on previous successes and to strengthen Mayo’s strategic advantage as a county, to ensure that we meet the needs of our citizens, communities, built and natural environments, infrastructure and economic/employment development to their full potential, while combatting and adapting to climate change.

    Mayo County Council Submission on Draft - Regional Spatial & Economic Strategy Forward Planning Section Mayo County Council Comhairle Contae Mhaigh Eo 6 February 2019 1.0 Introduction Mayo County Council (MCC) welcomes this opportunity to collaborate with the Northern & Western Regional Assembly on shaping the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES) for the Region through this submission on the draft RSES which is currently on public display. This submission, while commenting on specific aspects of the draft, builds on the previous submission made in response to the Assembly’s Issues Paper and in respect to the Working Draft. Regrettably, this Council must, yet again, express dissatisfaction and concern that the full depth and breadth of previous submissions and the issues and concerns raised with the Assembly at its HQ in Ballaghaderreen on 13th September 2018 have not been addressed. Specifically, significant issues and priorities highlighted by MCC are generally not addressed or are not given sufficient weight in the draft RSES. Again, MCC acknowledges the huge body of work undertaken by the NWRA in the preparation of the draft, a complex task given the size and extent of the region, made all the more challenging by this being the first Spatial and Economic Strategy for the region. As with the previous submissions, and engagement, to and with the Assembly, it is hoped that this submission on the draft RSES will assist the Assembly in articulating a clear, robust strategy for the spatial and economic development of this region and, ultimately, the realisation of the National Strategic Outcomes of the NPF. Regrettably, MCC is of the view that the current draft does not articulate such a strategy in a way that “provides a very solid foundation to deliver transformational change” for the region as a whole or for County Mayo.
