THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN

The ski club of Ponte nelle Alpi has been entrusted by the FIS (International Ski Federation) with the organization of the Grass Ski World Championship. The association will be assisted by GrasskiTeamBell1, an association that was recently founded in the tradition of grass skiing in the and the municipal administration of Tambre. The races will take place in Alpago in the Tambre locality (Bellunesi Dolomites, Region – ) from 31st August to 5th September.

THE TRADITION OF GRASS SKIING IN TAMBRE

Tambre has been developing grass skiing, proposing competitions of different levels, since the seventies.

In recent years the Alpago centre has become one of the Italian and International centres: several different FIS races as well as races of the Italian Championship have taken place here. In 2013 Tambre was even home to the World Cup. Training camps for the national team have been held here and, in 2012, an international youth camp with over seventy athletes representing ten different countries (Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Taiwan, Japan, Albania, Switzerland, Spain and Italy). THE TERRITORY

Tambre (Bellunesi Dolomites, Veneto Region) is the highest point of the Alpago Valley (992 metres high). It is situated an hour by car from and has a view of the Dolomites. The territory is at the foot of Mount Cavallo and is made up of woods and fields that gradually spread out towards Santa Croce Lake below and Cansiglio Forest above. Under the domination of the “Serenissima Repubblica” of Venice, this area was known as the wood of oars, that is the wood from which timber was taken to build ships.

The history of Tambre and of Cansiglio is also characterized by the presence of the “Cimbri”, a group of families of the ethnic minority originating from the Asiago Highland. They arrived in Alpago at the beginning of the xviii century and today it is possible to study their history and culture by visiting the village of Vallorch and the Ethnographic museum.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE WORLD CHANPIONSHIPS 2015

The World Championship races will take place on the Col Indes slope, which was approved by the international FIS in 2012.

Protective nets and impact absorption material will be placed along the entire course to ensure the maximum safety of the athletes both during the races and during the official training days.

The structure also has a system connecting the start and the finishing line in order to assist the timing of the races.

At the finishing line there will be an electronic table which will allow spectators to follow the progress of the athletes in real time.

An international jury designated by FIS will follow and check the races together with national and international delegations that will be responsible for the start and finish line.

Medical assistance, coordinated by a doctor, will be present during the races with a mobile first aid unit at the side of the slope and an ambulance and helicopter-ambulance service.

The transport of the athletes from their arrival to their departure will be guaranteed by a shuttle bus service made available by the organization.

There will be a covered area reserved for the athletes near the start of the race where they will be able to clean and prepare their equipment. ENTRY FORM
