All right reserved. 12 Days Best of Bhutan tour description Day 1 : PARO - ARRIVAL The representative of Diethelm Travel Bhutan will receive you at the airport and be your guide throughout your tour. Check into hotel. Visit the Rinpung Dzong, built in 1645 to defend the valley against Tibetan invaders. Visit the National Museum, which is a repository of not only precious work of art but also costumes, armor and other hand crafted objects of daily life that provide a good snapshot of the rich cultural traditions of the country. Overnight Paro. Day 2 : PARO INSIGHT Today visit Dungtse Lhakhang, that lies just out of town, across the river. Visit Drugyel Dzong now in ruins. It was built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel to commemorate his victory over the Tibetan invaders led by Mongolian Warlord Gushri Khan. The glory of the Dzong still remains after it was destroyed by fire in 1951. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang. Overnight in Paro. Day 3 : PARO - THIMPHU Drive to Thimphu. On route visit Tachogang Temple. Check into hotel. Visit the Textile Museum to get an understanding of the beautiful hand woven Bhutanese textiles. Visit the National Library, a treasure trove of priceless Buddhist manuscripts. Then move to the National Folk Heritage Museum to get an insight into the typical Bhutanese way of life. See the Institute for Zorig Chusum commonly known as the painting school. Visit the Traditional Medicine Institute. Drive to Kuensel Phodrang and walk to the Memorial Chorten built in the memorary of our Third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Day 4 : THIMPHU - PUNAKHA Morning visit Changangkha Temple. Drive to Punakha via the Dochula Pass(3140m). On a clear day some of the highest peaks in Bhutan can be seen from here. Visit Duk Wangyel Chorten built by the Queen Mother for the peace and stability of the country. Visit Chimi Lhakhang. This temple is believed to bless couples unable to have children. Many people from around the world visit this holy site to seek its blessing. Check into hotel. Overnight Punakha. Day 5 : PUNAKHA Visit the impressive Punakha Dzong, the second of Bhutan's dzongs. Hike to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten. This chorten was built by the Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangden Wangchuck in 1999 for the protection of the country. Visit Bhutan Souvenir Production Training Center (BSPTC). This center trains disadvantage girls to produce souvenir handicrafts. Overnight Punakha Day 6 : PUNAKHA - GANGTEY Drive to Gangtey. On route visit Wangdue Dzong now in ruins. In Gangtey visit Khewang Lhakhang. Overnight Gangtey. Day 7 : GANGTEY DAY EXCURSION Enjoy Gangtey valley.     CONSECRATION OF NEW KA-GONG-PHUR-SUM LHAKHANG IN KURJEY, BUMTHANG BY HIS HOLINESS DILGO KHYENTSE RINPOCHE* Anonymous First Consecration in 1990 The main consecration of the new Kurjey Temple was held on the 15 Day of the Fourth Month of the Wood Horse Year in the 17th Rabjung corresponding to June 8, 1990, which coincided with the anniversary of Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and Mahaparnirvana. The consecration ceremony was performed by His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Trulkus and monks of Tongsa, Tharpaling, Nyimalung and Shechan Tennyi Dargyeling Monastery of His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche at Boudhnath, Nepal. His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Queen Mother, Their Majesties The Queens, Their Royal Highnesses The Princes and Princesses, senior monks from the Central Monastic Body and officials of the Royal Government attended the consecration and offered prayers. The first Drubchen (Mahasadhana) at this newly built temple started on the 5th Day of the Fourth Month and concluded on the 16th Day with Ngodrub Langchog (Ceremony of Receiving the Supreme Consummation) in the early hours of the morning. In the afternoon of the same day, the three-day long consecration ceremony was concluded with benedictions of Yondag Ngasoel (Installation of Patron) with offering of the Eight Auspicious Emblems and the Eight Lucky Offerings to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Mother by His Holiness Khyentse Rinpoche to the accompaniment of prayers by the monks. She has taught a range of classes including Linguistic Anthropology, Language and the Body, and Literacies in Social Context. Convinced of the deep value of experiential learning, in all her courses she strives to create opportunities for students to bring theories to life through interactions outside the classroom. Erika’s research focuses on sign languages, exploring the flexible, multi-modal nature of communicative practices. She has over twenty years of experience conducting fieldwork with Nepali deaf communities, culminating in a recent, award-winning book, titled, Signing and Belonging in Nepal. One of the highlights of her teaching career was bringing a team of Oberlin students to Kathmandu to collaborate in her research there. She has also had the pleasure of co-leading a winter term trip to Indonesia. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, running, and playing music.
