MARCH 2020 11 Big Country opens 2020 with sensational sale success Contributed by McCaffrey’s Australian Livestock Marketing photos by Qld Country Life, NQ Register & Scott Radford-Chisholm The Big Country Brahman Sale, held at Charters Towers in the first week of February produced an excellent result for the start of the 2020 Stud Sale year. The two-day auction offering a record number of lots for this sale was strongly supported by breed enthusiasts, stud masters and commercial cattle producers alike, from as far away as the Northern Territory, New South Wales and many areas of Queensland.

The Sale gross increased 11% on 2019’s exceptional result to total L.to R. The clearance right through was 99% and our overall bull average was just $90 less than 2019,” Jim Geaney said, “an extraordinary achievement.” What made the Sale result all the more creditable was the fact that graziers in all of the Sale’s target marketing areas, right up until a week or 10 days before the sale, were experiencing the debilitating and costly effects of prolonged dry and drought conditions. “Cattle producers recognised the high standard of quality and performance of the lots we had gathered in the Big Country catalogue this year, and were very keen to support it.
