Join Asia Society and actress Tina Chen as she recounts the fascinating story of three genera- tions of her mother’s family and their contributions to the history of China.

Tina’s impressive ancestry includes a great grandfather who was Governor General of seven provinces and served under three different Qing Dynasty emperors and the Empress Dowager Tzu Hsi; his son, an assistant to Sun Yat Sen, who became the first premier of the Republic of

China; and his granddaughter (Tina Chen’s mother), a Cambridge scholar who, after fleeing to Taiwan during the war, took on secret work that she had to hide even from her husband.

Speaker Bio: Tina Chen is a Golden Globe Award, Emmy Award, and Drama Desk Award nominee. Her film credits include ’ The Hawaiians (opposite Charlton Heston), which earned her the Golden Globe Award nomination; Sydney Pollack’s Three Days of the Condor (opposite ); Arthur Penn’s Alice’s Restaurant (opposite Arlo Guthrie); and Bertha Bay-Sa Pan’s award-winning indie film Face (opposite Bai Ling).

More recently, Tina starred in Albert M. Chan’s award-winning short film Descendants of the Past, Ancestors of the Future, and has starred in various television programs and specials, most notably, The Final War of Olly Winter (opposite Ivan Dixon), for which she earned an Em- my Award nomination. She has played leading roles in numerous productions on and off Broadway and has also directed a number of plays.
