Carlson did damage early and often, starting the bottom of the 1st with his first solo home run of the night. A two-run blast by Arkansas 3B Mike Ahmed in the 2nd tilted the 2-1 lead to the Travs, before the Cardinals responded with a two-run double from SS Rayder Ascanio in the 4th for a 3-2 advantage. Arkansas tied it in the 7th with a solo shot from CF Dom Thompson-Williams, knotting the game at 3-3. With two on and two down in the 8th, Lopez launched a go-ahead three-run bomb to left field, followed immediately by Carlson’s second solo homer of the night, and the Cardinals went on to win, 7-3. Final sprint… By battling out the series split with consecutive wins the last two days against 1st-place Arkansas, the Cardinals remain alive in the battle for the 2nd Half North Division Championship with 21 games remaining. Springfield enters action on Monday just 5.0 games behind the 1st- place Travs, who the Cardinals will host three more times at Hammons Field this Friday – Sunday. The Cardinals trail 2nd-place Tulsa by just 4.0 games, with this four-game set at ONEOK Field representing the final meetings of the season between the two clubs. Leading the league… With his second two-home run game of the season (and of his career) on Sunday, CF Dylan Carlson has continued to extend his lead among the league’s top home run hitters. The 20 year old sits on top of the circuit with a career-high 21 round-trippers, a season-high four homers above the 2nd-best total of 17 by Naturals INF Gabriel Cancel and Hooks OF Ronnie Dawson. Carlson also leads the league in runs (81), extra-base hits (51), slugging percentage (.526) and total bases (216), while ranking among league leaders in 13 total categories. On an even larger scale, Carlson leads all of Double-A in runs, slugging pct., and total bases, while ranking 2nd in homers and 2nd in extra-base hits. Late night Lopez… 2B Irving Lopez has excelled in late/close situations this season, batting .406 (13x32) with a team-high three home runs and nine RBIs, along with a double, two triples and six runs in those scenarios. The 24 year old connected on a pair of walk-off home runs in the first home series of the season, and drilled the game-winning blast with his three-run home run in the 8th yesterday. Late/close stats are tracked when the game is in the 7th inning or later with the score within three runs. Clean living… The Cardinals have committed just five miscues in their last 21 games and strung together nine straight games without an error from 7/20-7/29. Springfield has been one of the top fielding teams in the league all season and is currently tied for 1st with Arkansas for the top fielding percentage in the circuit at .985.
