For Immediate Release Thursday, July 16, 2020 Shelby Wieman | [email protected] | 303-957-6011 Governor Polis Announces Statewide Mask Order DENVER - Governor Jared Polis today announced a Statewide mask order, directing Coloradans to wear a face covering while indoors. This Executive Order goes into effect at midnight tonight. The Governor also provided an update on the State’s response to COVID-19. “Wearing a mask is an easy and highly effective way to significantly reduce the spread of COVID-19. The more we wear masks, the safer we will be and the stronger our economy will grow,” said Governor Jared Polis. “Unfortunately, this pandemic is far from over, cases are up, and we have to find a way to live sustainably while protecting ourselves and those around us. Masks are the ticket to the Colorado we love and a critical part of supporting Colorado’s economy and prosperity. The best way to support Colorado workers and businesses right now is to wear a mask. I’ve said this from the beginning, and it’s still true today: together, we will get through this.” The Governor was joined by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman, and State Epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy at the announcement. Coloradans older than 10 years old must wear a face covering over their nose and mouth when entering or moving within any public indoor space. A public indoor space is defined as any enclosed indoor area that is publicly or privately owned, managed or operated to which individuals have access by right or by invitation, expressed or implied, and that is accessible to the public, serves as a place of employment, or is an entity providing services. -

Lawmakers urge Congress to ‘man up’ on transportation funding Rosalind Rossi SunTimes April 9, 2015 http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/lawmakers‐urge‐congress‐to‐man‐up‐on‐transportation‐funding/ Illinois’ federal lawmakers stood united with area transit leaders Thursday in urging Congress to “man up” and pass a long‐term federal transportation funding bill before two key transit measures expire or teeter on insolvency. “My message to Congress is `Man up,’ ” U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, (D‐Ill.), announced at a “Stand Up 4 Transportation” news conference at Chicago’s Union Station. Durbin joined U.S. Reps. Dan Lipinski (D‐Ill.), Mike Quigley (D‐Ill.), Bill Foster (D‐Ill.) and U.S. Rep. Bob Dold (R‐Ill.) in urging Congress to pass long‐term funding instead of patchwork short‐term solutions to bankroll the nation’s public transit and transportation systems. Lipinski noted that Congress has passed 11 short‐term extensions to fund the nation’s highway and transit needs in roughly the last six years. “This is not good for our country,” Lipinski said. “Congress cannot keep kicking the can down the road . The system becomes more and more expensive to fix.” Leaders of the CTA, Metra, Pace and Amtrak joined elected officials in urging long‐term, sustainable funding to maintain and upgrade transportation needs — from buses and trains to roads and bridges. Such a move is critical to not only the nation’s ability to move goods and carry people to work and commerce but to its future, they said. Quigley noted that investing in transportation infrastructure pays dividends. -

This online Scorecard contains a compilation of significant votes on federal legislation affecting faith, family, and freedom that FRC Action either supported or opposed. These recorded votes span the 2015 calendar year and include the greatest number of pro-life votes in history, after the U.S. House increased its Republican membership and the U.S. Senate was returned to Republican control. The year began with a bipartisan effort in the House to prohibit federal funds from being used to pay for abortion coverage under Obamacare. Congress successfully fought to restrict FDA approval of some forms of embryo-destructive research. The House, once again, passed legislation that would prevent late abortions on 5 month old pain-capable unborn children, and although the Senate was unable to pass the bill due to the 60 vote threshold, for the first time, a majority of Senators voted in favor of the bill. The public release of videos revealing Planned Parenthood’s organ harvesting practices renewed efforts to defund this scandal-ridden organization and redirect funding towards community health centers. In an unprecedented victory, the House and Senate passed a budget reconciliation bill, the Restoring Ameri- cans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act, which would have eliminated a significant portion of Planned Parenthood’s funding—roughly 80%— and repealed key provisions of Obamacare. -

Treasury, HUD submit housing reform plans Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson submitted two plans to the White House yesterday for ending the conservatorship of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, restructuring the government guarantees for housing loans, and protecting taxpayers from further liability. The Treasury report calls for almost 50 legislative changes to limit the government’s role in the secondary market, enhance taxpayer protections, and encourage private-sector competition. “At the same time, reform should not and need not wait on Congress,” the report said. The HUD plan would “refocus” the Federal Housing Administration on its “core mission of helping low- and moderate-income borrowers.” Mnuchin, Carson, and Federal Housing Finance Administration Director Mark Calabria will appear before the Senate Banking Committee next Tuesday to discuss the plans. Senate Banking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R- ID) said yesterday that many of the Treasury plan’s provisions corresponded to elements of his own proposal, and that he would prefer “to fix the housing finance system through legislation.” Federal Reserve proposes capital requirements for insurance companies that own banks Today the Federal Reserve published a long-awaited proposal to create a capital framework for the eight insurance companies that own banks. -
