CheetahsRugby www.facebook.com/CheetahsRugby @CheetahsRugby www.fscheetahs.co.za A very warm welcome to everyone attending this weekend’s games as the weather in the north is beginning to chill while the heat is certainly turning up in South Africa. This weekend Connacht and Benetton Rugby begin their two-week tours of South Africa and their games with the Isuzu Southern Kings and the Toyota Cheetahs should provide plenty of fast-paced rugby on some terrific dry surfaces in Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein. Round 9 sees all five participating nations in the Guinness PRO14 hosting games across the weekend with three games on both Friday and Sunday to ensure supporters don’t have to chose between club and country as the autumn internationals draw to a close. On that note, it’s worth congratulating Ireland for their terrific victory over New Zealand in Dublin on the weekend. Every player in the Irish match-day squad is based in the Guinness PRO14 with the likes of Jacob Stockdale, Garry Ringrose, James Ryan, Joey Carbery and Jordan Larmour having only recently burst onto the scene in our Championship. The international period also sees our match ocials recognised with Nigel Owens, John Lacey, Frank Murphy, Dan Jones, Mike Adamson and Ben Whitehouse all receiving appointments while Joy Neville was one of six Guinness PRO14 ocials also involved as assistant referees. As for this weekend’s Guinness PRO14 action all eyes should be on Dublin and Glasgow to see if either Ospreys or Cardi Blues can put a dent in the charges of Leinster and the Warriors. Both of these champion teams are in full flight this season, topping their Conferences thanks to world-class players in their squads, quality coaching and calibre of next generation talents emerging. But the fight to keep pace with the Conference leaders is really intense. In Conference A just three points separate the four teams between 2nd and 5th while four points split the teams between 2nd and 4th in Conference B. In Conference A, Cardi Blues are in a good run of form and a result against Glasgow on Friday night would put the pressure on Ospreys, Munster and Connacht to follow suit. All three of those teams are away from home to face Leinster, Zebre and the Kings so there is a lot at stake in Round 9. In Conference B it’s up to Ulster, Scarlets and Edinburgh to put the squeeze on Leinster but something will have to give as Ulster travel to Llanelli to take on the 2017 champions. Wayne Pivac’s team have put together an incredible record at Parc y Scarlet which is one of the real fortresses of the Guinness PRO14. Scarlets haven’t been beaten in their last 25 home games in the Championship, a record bettered only by Leinster who have previously had runs of 26 and 29 undefeated at home. Meanwhile, Edinburgh will travel to Newport for the weekend’s final game to face Bernard Jackman’s Dragons, who are scoring some very eye-catching tries at Rodney Parade and looking to turn those scores into winning ones. Right now the excitement and warm-weather atmosphere of the Guinness PRO14 Final might seem a long way away, but every team in the tournament is dreaming of winning the trophy at Celtic Park on May 25. However, without even making a tackle you can guarantee your place by going direct to bit.ly/glasgow2019 to get your tickets. Make sure to our ocial accounts on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter as well to see what special oers we have available for Black Friday. The introduction of the Conference format was a necessity when we expanded into South Africa, but one of the knock-on benefits was the expansion of the Guinness PRO14 Final Series which means that more teams have more to play for. In Conference A right now, everyone from Munster down to Cardi Blues will feel confident they can join Glasgow Warriors in reaching the knock-out stages. It’s been another terrific start to the season for the Warriors under Dave Rennie who has his entire squad playing o the same hymn sheet.
