Fantasia Monique Barrino, or simply Fantasia (born June 30, 1984 in High Point, North Carolina), an African-American rhythm and blues singer, who came to fame as the winner of the third season of the television series American Idol. Fantasia has released five studio albums Free Yourself (2004), Fantasia (2006), Back To Me (2008), Side Effects of You (2013), The Definition of… (2016), and a holiday album, Christmas After Midnight (2017). In addition to her music career, Fantasia has also ventured into other pursuits such as publishing, acting, and Broadway. In her memoir "Life is Not a Fairy Tale", she reveals intimate details about herself, including her functional illiteracy. The book was later adapted into a Lifetime movie of the same name in 2006. Directed by famed actress and choreographer Debbie Allen, it received 19 million viewers, making it Lifetime's second-most viewed program of all time. During 2007, Fantasia was on Broadway performing as Celie in The Color Purple, the hit musical based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker. Her performance had earned rave reviews and helped boost ticket sales as well as her album sales. After her Broadway stint ended in January 2008, Fantasia was back on the road again touring and is said to be preparing for her next studio album. 2. Fantasia is also the first name from the French symphonic metalband Fairyland. They called themselves 'Fantasia' when they made demos like 'Cruel Death' and 'The King'. But when they came with their debute album, they changed their name in Fairyland. 3. Fantasia is a progressive rock band from Pietarsaari, Finland. Originally named St. Marcus Blues Band (founded in 1967), the bassist Markku Lönngren came up with the new name from Amazing Blondel's album called "Fantasia Lindum" and thus changed the name to "Fantasia" in 1973. The band defined their sound somewhere between progressive rock and hard rock although the sound mainly resembles to those of the other 1970's prog rock bands, such as Finnish compatriots Wigwam and Tabula Rasa. Fantasia released only one self-titled album in 1975 with only 2000 copies sold (which made it a almost a "rarity" amongst the prog rock collectors), but has been reissued on CD by Rocket-Records in 2010. Line-up: Hannu Lindblom (guitars & vocals), Harri Piha (bass), Karl-Erik Rönngård (drums) and Roul Helantie (organs & piano). FANTASIA. ''Fantasia'' draw influences from the jazzy sound of WIGWAM, no doubt about it, but it was more in the vein of Classic Prog in terms of structures. It's actually a soft, jazzy Prog Rock album with detailed arrangements and multiple sources of inspirations with the jazzy elements dominating the music, but there is also space for psychedelic textures. Fusion parts and even some light symphonic keys in the process. The varied influences led to a deep instrumental background, which included organ, sax, synthesizers and electric piano, eventually creating music with lots of variations and diverse moods.Mostly instrumental, this one explores the more mellow side of Progressive Rock with an impressive rhythm section, swirling around jazzy patterns and more groovy, psychedelic beats, surrounded by the careful guitar plays of Hannu Lindblom, somewhere between PEKKA RECHARDT and JAN AKKERMAN, and the beautiful keyboard moves of Roul Helantie, characterized by atmospheric synths, soft organ washes, jazzy electric piano and more Fusion and intricate flashes. The atmosphere is pretty dreamy, getting even more ethereal with the use of sax and violin in a couple of tracks, and the arrangements are always nice and flawless, albeit less energetic than expected. The album sold about 2000 copies, which were not the anticipated number by the Hi-Hat management. Thus Fantasia never made it to a second album. They still toured in Soviet Union in 1976, but changes in styles and line-ups led to incosistent musical results and they broke up in 1979, giving birth again to St. Marcus Bluesband and its more solid and accesible bluesy sound. Cool jazzy Progressive Rock with interesting arrangements.Elements of Fusion and Psych Rock are all over the place for a fine discovery from 70's Finland.Warmly recommended. Review by Matti Prog Reviewer. On to the music. At the time they were compared to WIGWAM, and that comparison still seems very valid. The cleanly produced sound resembles quite a lot the new "deep pop" era Wigwam (Nuclear Nightclub came out the same year). Keyboards favour Moog, string synth and electric piano, and the electric guitar is not far from the style of the new Wigwam member Rekku Rechardt. Also TABULA RASA were mentioned in the reviews. If Fantasia had a flute too, the resemblance would be obvious. The songwriting differs more from those contemporaries than the sound. This album is more emphasized on airy instrumentalism. The majority of the tracks are instrumentals. Luckily so, as the vocals are rather mediocre. Mellotron Storm's review underlines the beautiful melancholy. Yes, there is that, and combined with an airy and jazzy elegance it produces music which is easy to enjoy. I don't care to go to the track by track approach as all tracks are fairly good and the album flows nicely in a way it becomes unnecessary to stay on the map all the time. I really love the Fusion elements in this relatively peaceful album. The closing instrumental 'Depressio' is excellent. This isn't necessarily one of the very finest Finnish prog albums, but definitely too unnoticed here. Review by b_olariu Prog Reviewer. "Pilvien Takaa" is the only track that really brings WIGWAM to mind for me. Keyboards, drums and vocals lead in this feel good opener. I really like the intrumental section from before 2 minutes to before 4 minutes. "Unikuva" has this intro that is amazing and it comes and goes throughout this track. It's basically drums, bass and guitar but it hits the spot perfectly for me. Some nice guitar before 3 minutes as well. "Huutokauppa" has some good bottom end as the keys and guitar take turns leading over top. So good. "Suihkuliidolla" features some more great instrumental work. Again it's melancholic. Some violin in this one too. "Hautausmaani Rannoilla" opens with spacey synths then it kicks in at a minute with vocals. "Tulen Pisara" opens with gentle guitar as reserved vocals join in then synths.Keys 2 minutes in then that melancholic mood sets in. Nice. Vocals are back before 4 1/2 minutes. "Agressio" opens with psychedelic sounding guitar then it kicks in with some vigor with prominant drumming and guitar. "Harma Jazz" is a short guitar led instrumental. "Depressio" is laid back with guitar. Synths roll in after 2 minutes then it picks up some. It settles back again as the tempo continues to shift throughout. A special little album without a doubt. It's great finding these obscure gems. Easily 4 stars. Fantasia self titled album download. "Andalusian dream pop/shoegaze quartet Uniforms formed in 2018 with no great pretensions - some of them hadn’t even played an instrument before! But that didn't stop them starting a band and writing music with its roots in their shared tastes – the sounds of 90's indie and especially shoegaze. With their first EP “Equals” they immediately gained attention in Spain, embarking that year on extensive touring and playing several major festivals. Their debut album "Polara" was released by Basque label Oso Polita in 2018 to excellent reviews from both music press and public. Now in 2020 they're back with a brand new album, "Fantasía Moral". Recorded in La Mina Studios in Seville, Fantasía Moral has a more mature sound, yet one that retains Uniforms’ distinct freshness and naivety, and ten songs of some of the finest shoegaze and dream pop you’re likely to hear this year!” Fantasia self titled album download. release date: 30-04-2021. Amsterdam based SMANDEM. proves that an incredible skill set and open minded approach causes genre distinctions to blur into pure energy. Inspired by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Christian Scott and Wayne Shorter as well as Travis Scott and Drake, the four-headed collective produces a sound that is deeply rooted into jazz tradition, while never restrained to any style boundaries or formal etiquette. They strive forward and explore ways to marry their delicate ability with present-day popular music. With a strong friendship at core, their dynamic live-show feels like it effortlessly accelerates from lush harmonies into colourful mixtures of dense rhythms and fierce improvisation. Including features by Herbie Hancock flutist Elena Pinderhughes (USA) and NL based talent Pink Oculus, their debut EP called ‘Self-Titled’ - set to release on Super-Sonic Records early 2021 - exemplifies best what this free-spirited mandem is up to. SMANDEM. - consisting of Aäron Bouwman (Bass), David Nino van der Grinten (Keys), Rafael Devante Sinay (Guitar) and Kick Woudstra (Drums) - first met during their studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
