CELCOM HEEDS GOVERNMENT’S CALL TO DEVELOP HUMAN CAPITAL WITH 1MALAYSIA TRAINING SCHEME grows potential young talents by nurturing more than 100 graduates to be tomorrow’s leaders

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 DECEMBER 2014 – Celcom Berhad, the first and foremost mobile telecommunications provider in the country has today launched the Celcom 1Malaysia Training Scheme (SL1M) programme as part of its commitment to support the national talent development agenda by offering young graduates an opportunity to embark on their professional career in a challenging and stimulating work environment.

SL1M is an initiative developed by the Government and monitored by the Human Capital Development Section, Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (EPU) that aims to enhance graduates’ employability by providing them with job opportunities with Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) and private organisations.

Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad, said, “We are confident that the Celcom SL1M programme will help to nurture today’s youth into the leaders of tomorrow by providing them with a platform to learn new skills and gain the necessary work experience to jumpstart their career, enabling them to contribute to their nation in the long run. The skills that the trainees acquire here at Celcom are not only applicable to the telecommunication industry but can also be used in any industry as these skills were developed to prepare them to be skilled employees in the workforce.

The Celcom 1Malaysia Training Scheme (SL1M) programme was launched by Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department at Menara Celcom.

To date, Celcom has recruited 136 trainees from all over since October 2014 following several rounds of interviews nationwide including Sabah and Sarawak. Under the programme, the trainees will be assigned to 12 months of holistic and comprehensive on-the-job training which will provide them with real-life working experience. The programme is based on five modules that aim to develop the trainees’ competencies: Value Driven Professional, Organisational Adaptability, Grooming & Etiquette and Communication. Celcom will evaluate the SL1M trainees’ performance throughout the 12-month period and qualifying trainees who perform well will be absorbed to be part of Celcom’s workforce.

Students from local public and private institutions of higher learning as well as fresh graduates are encouraged to keep a lookout for the SL1M programme at career fairs held nationwide.
