The clubs that did not qualify for the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs – or the clubs that acquired the first-round picks of the non-playoff clubs – participated in the 2019 NHL Draft Lottery. Turnbull Hockey Pool for Each year, Turnbull students participate in several fundraising initiatives, which we promote as a way to develop a sense of community, leadership and social responsibility within the students. Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). This year's group has decided to run the hockey pool for the benefit of Help Lesotho, an international development organization working in the AIDS-ravaged country of Lesotho in southern Africa. The short, three minute film, which can be found online or in movie theatres across the country, tells the story of a decisive moment of action that leads to greatness. In Wheeler's story, Kevin forgets his equipment on his way to a hockey tournament in St. Catharines, playing, at the time, AE hockey for Aurora in 2002. In a panic, Kevin then makes a call to his Aurora neighbour, David Fong, who grabs his equipment and proceeds to meet Kevin, and mother Laurie Wheeler midway to exchange the gear.

The teams will be vying for a berth in the Stanley Cup Final against the winner of the other Semifinals series between the Vegas Golden Knights and Montreal Canadiens. The Lightning will be skating in their ninth Game 7 in franchise history (5-3) and for the sixth time in the final-four round (2-3). Only three other clubs – all from the Original Six – have played as many such contests in the Semifinals: the Boston Bruins (8 GP; 4-4), Detroit Red Wings (6 GP; 5-1) and Chicago Blackhawks (6 GP; 3-3). Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh has made a team-high eight career appearances in a Game 7 (6-2), one of 10 active players with at least six career Game 7 wins.
