The purpose of this paper attempts to shed light the status of women’s empowerment in India through games and sports and highlights the issues and challenges of women empowerment in the field of physical education and sports. Sport is an integral part of the culture of almost every nation. However, its use to promote gender equity and empower girls and women is often overlooked because sport is not universally perceived as a suitable or desirable pursuit for girls and women. Today the empowerment of women in games and sports has become one of the most important concerns of 21st century. But practically women empowerment in games and sports is still an illusion of reality. It is observe in our day to day life how women become victimized by various social evils. Women empowerment is the vital instrument to expand women’s ability to have resources and to make strategic life choices. The onset of the global pandemic caused by the COVID-19 outbreak has caused great distress across the world. From our perspective, it has meant that the Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan from July 24-August 9, 2020 have been postponed for the first time in history. While there is no doubt that the right decision was made, this postponement has led to a drastic shift in momentum for all our athletes who were in the ‘home stretch’ of their preparations. Having said that, this situation has also given us and our athletes a new purpose: that of being grateful, cherishing what we have and preparing even harder in the coming year to ensure we can move forward toward our goal of kickstarting an Olympic Movement in India! It fills me with immense pride to see the impact we have been able to create in Indian sport through the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) – our dedication to the nation built with the objective of churning out Champions for India.

It is one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls. Great progress has been made in promoting gender equality in terms of balancing the total number of athletes participating at the games, offering leadership development, advocacy and awareness campaigns, and more women to leadership roles within the administration and governance. Some women i.e. Karnam Malleshwari, Saina Nehwal and M. C. Mary Com won the medals. On the basis of this trend we can say that, women’s participation in sports will be equal to men’s near the mid of this century. Keywords: Women Sports Activities, Physical Activity. Introduction The topic is virtually ignored by most of the research scholars and thus female sport participation has been relatively undeveloped area of research. Existing social constructs of masculinity and femininity or socially expected ways of expressing what it means to be a man or woman in a particular socio-cultural context play a key role in determining access, level of participation, and benefits from sports as well as various physical activities. As women were thought to be and in some areas of india still thought to be cursed by some strata of society their birth was seen as a burden. Women in particular, women in sports leadership, can shape personality towards women’s capabilities as leaders, especially in Manisha Sunil Joshi traditional male areas.

Commonwealth Games 2014: Glasgow’s moment of glory arrives By : INVC Team Published On : 26 Jul, 2014 10:31 AM IST { Manish Desai*} There is an air of excitement in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, as it plays host to the 20thCommonwealth Games. Organizers are eager to play down comparisons with London’s hosting of the Olympic Games in 2012 and put on a world-class event of their own. This is the third time the Commonwealth Games are being held in Scotland, after 1970 and 1986 when the games were held in the capital Edinburgh. The games has united the 2.3 million strong residents of Glasgow, under the mascot Clyde, ever since they won the bid in 2007 beating the Nigerian city of Abuja. Glasgow gave an indication of things to come by putting out an impressive show at the closing ceremony of the 19thCommonwealth Games, four years ago in New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Opening Ceremony The Opening Ceremony was held at Celtic Park, Glasgow. Queen Elizabeth II read out the message written on the Queen’s Baton which has travelled to 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth in a relay for 248 days, before declaring the Games open. The opening ceremony featured a parade around Celtic Park by thousands of athletes taking part in the Games. India, as the previous host, led the parade, which ended with the current host, Scotland. The centrepiece of the opening ceremony a live show consisting of about 2,000 people.
