Bolgheri’s exceptional climate is moderated by sea breezes from the nearby Tirrhenian Sea, and the ’ clay and sand soils are ideal for , , and Petit Verdot. The delicate Merlot was picked during the first half of September, while the robust Cabernets and Petit Verdot were harvested in the second half of the month. come from densely planted vineyards and low yields, which produce with concentration and complexity. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and on the skins takes 20-22 days. The is matured at least 3 months in bottle before release.

The 2017 defies easy description. The cycle of events through the growing season were unusual. The winter was uncharacteristically mild and dry. Vines never quite remained dormant for long, and the area was experiencing a drought. Fast forward to spring, and moderate temperatures prompted early budding. Thankfully, the area was not affected by an early frost. Early budding varieties had more success through the entire season. By May however, the drought had intensified, unusually high summertime temperatures arrived, and late budding varieties suffered to set fruit properly. Yields were lower, so care and hard work in the were most important. An earlier than usual arrived, yet the quality of the fruit was undiminished despite the circumstances. Overall the purity of fruit and aromatics maintain typical characteristics of the region.
