Get It Right! The Stuart Elster Trio Primrose Lane Music PLM-005

FROM THE ARTIST:

In early 2002 I received a call from a man named Ray Slayton, who was interested in starting a club in Santa Monica, California. We met at Shutters on the Beach Hotel, where I am the musical director. Later, he showed me the location of the club, which was just down the street at an old Victorian mansion that was being used as a private events facility. The upstairs was perfect for an intimate listening room, with great acoustics and a cozy living room environment.

I proposed that we establish a house trio, and feature different guest artists every week. I called upon two wonderful jazz artists, Luther Hughes on bass and Paul Kreibich on drums, to help me launch The Vic jazz club.

For one and a half years we played together every Thursday night. For me, it was a dream come true. Every week we grew as a trio, and established the kind of musical rapport that can only come about through mutual respect and consistent playing together.

This recording is meant to document the sound we established at The Vic. It features songs that we performed there, as well as some originals that were written specifically for this recording. I hope you enjoy listening to this music as much as we enjoyed playing it.
