Rising 6th Grade Summer Homework

This summer I hope you have so much FUN! Ride your bike, go for a swim, and read a book…or 3! J Your summer homework is to read books from the following lists and complete the writing assignments that follow. Choose at least 1 book from each list. (3 total) Enjoy!!

LIST 1: Choose a Rick Riordan novel that you have not read:

*Percy Jackson and the Olympians #s 1-5 about 300 pages *Heroes of Olympus #1-5 about 600+ pages *Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard Series about 500 pages *Kane Chronicles #1-3 about 400+ Pages *Greek Gods 400 pages *39 Clues (These are by various authors. Check out the Rick Riordan version.) **I notice the local bookstores have some variations of the books such as large hardcover with pictures, etc. You may choose any Rick Riordan book. WRITING: Use looseleaf paper (or type) the following assignments:

*Create a magazine page with various articles about events, places to go, and outings happening in New Orleans over the summer. Include both actual factual and opinion information. You may include pictures with captions. (Consider festivals, parks, museums, streetcar trips, double decker buses, tours, etc.)

*Write a 1 page comparison of the Rick Riordan book you read in class and the Rick Riordan book you read for summer. How are they alike and different? (Consider the characters, settings, problems, points of view, events, etc.)

*Write a 1 page letter to the person that recommended the book you chose from list 3. Use proper letter format with a greeting, date, body, and closing. Place commas in appropriate places. Include a summary about the book and which parts you enjoyed the most.
