The report describes the activities on preparing and running the event, including a discussion on the outcomes and its impact. 3 1. Introduction This O14/A2 Second Pilot Workshop Summary Report document presents the procedures followed and the information recorded during the E1/B2 Second Pilot Workshop multiplier event. The second multiplier event was originally planned to take place in or around project month M29. However, the Steering Committee had decided to postpone the First Multiplier Event with respect to the original plan, which eventually took place in April 2017. In order to avoid having the two events one right after the other, it was decided that a period of another couple of months had to pass before being able to organize the Second Multiplier Event. Thus, such event had to take place in the months June-August 2017, leaving little space for maneuvering and few realistic options. The project plan asked for the Second Multiplier Event to be organized in combination with a major conference related to Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Before reaching the final decision, i.e. organizing the event along with the ICEIRD2017 conference, two other options were considered but rejected for various reasons: (a) Organization of a stand-alone event with the collaboration of OK!THESS, a local pre- incubator (http://okthess.gr/eng/). OK!THESS managers already were planning to organize an “unconference” in June 2017. An unconference is a participant-driven meeting [1], i.e. participants would choose the topics to be discussed during the event. This feature asked for some time to prepare the event by contacting the most relevant participants from neighboring countries (typically from the Balkan peninsula) and making a polling round to investigate potentially interesting conference topics. Beyond the little time available for such a preparation round, there was the risk that participants would propose few topics that would be quite close to INNOENTRE project interests. (b) Organization of a stand-alone event with the collaboration of Google Developers Greece or GDG [2]. GDG is a community of developers that are interested in Google technologies, a bunch of modern and innovative technologies that provide fertile soil for ideas for advanced IT applications and therefore may easily lead to I&E activities. Moreover, GDG is based in Thessaloniki and their activities attract developers from other neighboring countries as well (e.g. Turkey). Unfortunately, the scheduled GDG events for summer months of 2017 did not include an event in Thessaloniki. An attempt to organize a combined 4 event in the last days of June was abandoned for the fear of not being able to attract enough international participation. Eventually, the Second Multiplier Event was organized as a workshop of the International Conference on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Regional Development, ICEIRD 2017 [3]. ICEIRD is organized in a different country each time (e.g. last year’s edition took place in Bucharest, RO) and ICEIRD2017 was the 10th edition, having a celebration aura. The conference aims at advancing research and practice on university-industry links, focusing on I&E collaborations. In this context, I&E education plays a significant role in the conference. Quoting from ICEIRD web site “...ICEIRD aims at academics, university technology managers, entrepreneurs, policy-makers and businesses interested in the theory and practice of university-industry links as well as innovation, entrepreneurship, and regional development”. ICEIRD2017 was a two-day event, i.e. 31 August-1 September, held in Macedonia Palace Hotel, Thessaloniki. ICEIRD2017 hosted a number of workshops and the INNOENTRE Workshop on ICT, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship was one of them. 2. Workshop Description The workshop was entitled “INNOENTRE Workshop on ICT, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” to reflect both the name of the organizing project and the theme on which workshop activities would focus. The event was announced on the ICEIRD2017 site under the About_ICEIRD_2017/Workshops-and-roundtables tab [4]. The INNOENTRE event was scheduled in the late afternoon along with three parallel paper sessions (16.30-18.00) and parallel workshops (18.30-20.00, see [5] for the overall program). Another 11 workshops were already announced at the conference, and therefore competition was quite intense and attracting a high number of participants proved to be a hard task. The theme was chosen as to combine the dissemination of project activities and an as wide as possible reflection on how modern ICT technologies may foster I&E. The ICT technologies to discuss during the event were chosen to be: augmented reality, ICT in healthcare and sports, and wearable computing, according to the availability of scientists to present relevant projects and applications. The informal program of the event was as follows: 5 16.00-16.30 Registration 16.30-16.20 Welcome, Innoentre project presentation (I.Stamelos) 16.20-16.30 Platform presentation (V. Kolofotias) 17.00-17.30 Google Tango and Augmented Reality (P. Tzinis, Google Developer Expert) 17.30-18.00 IT in Health care/Sports (N. Mpourmpoulis, PhD in Physics/Foot Analysis Lab) 18.00-18.30 Coffee break 18.30-19.00 Wearable/Mobile Computing/Sensors (I. Zosimadis, Software Engineer) 19.00-19.30 Discussion/Student Poster Session/Workshop Closure The event schedule was informal and potentially altered by the participants during the event. 3. Participants A total of 26 participants from 9 different countries registered to the event and signed the attendance list (Annex A). Seventeen of them were international participants (not belonging to the INNOENTRE member organizations). An additional four belonged to Greek organizations. Finally, five of them belonged to the AUTH Innoentre team (including two of the presenters). Like the First Multiplier Event, these international participants belong to the G3 project target group (i.e., network actors from the entrepreneurship and innovation fields at large). During the event, it was noticed that some participants attended for some time but did not register formally, while certain other participants dropped off at some point to attend other parallel paper and workshop activities. From this point of view, the choice of holding the event in parallel with several other similar presentations/events proved to be a somewhat week decision. • Europe o Denmark: 1 o Portugal 1 o Italy 2 o UK 4 o Romania 6 o Kossovo 1 • North America o Canada: 1 • Africa o Tunisia: 1 6 This population included entrepreneurs, academics (both university and college educators), investors, public decision makers (ICEIRD2017 had a focus on regional development). In addition to the external participants, a total of six INNOENTRE project members of AUTH, and two external collaborators/presenters were present. 4. Workshop implementation The workshop lasted three hours and the initial schedule was more or less followed until the end with just slight deviations. 4.1 Welcome Note and INNOENTRE Project Presentation The first presentation of the workshop lasted 20 minutes
