This research aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on cruise ship employees stuck at sea. Using an inductive qualitative approach, a synchronous online focus group was conducted with nine cruise ship employees who were stuck at sea during COVID-19 pandemic. The findings revealed that COVID-19 pandemic has managed to erase the feeling of joy from cruise ship employees who were stuck at sea while exposing weakness of cruise line companies such as poor human resource management leadership. Moreover, COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated that it is of paramount importance that cruise line companies create a comprehensive strategy in assisting their employees who are experiencing an anxiety disorder and depression. Accordingly, this study sought to determine whether service quality differences among ships operating in the Asian market could suggest broader implications for the sustainability of the cruise industry. We chose the SERVQUAL framework for the analysis; we also employed the multiple case study method and topic synthesis to compare the service quality of three ships. Of the ships investigated—the Costa Victoria, Diamond Princess, and Superstar Virgo—the Diamond Princess had the highest service quality. Based on the results, we outlined suggestions for improving the quality of cruise services, including introducing the latest large ships and high-tech facilities, complying with the departure and arrival times of sailing schedules, improving the ratio of crew members per passenger, establishing a cruise personnel training system, and expanding membership program operations. COVID-19 Digest Issue 45 March 5, 2021 CLINICAL PEARL • What clinicians need to know about the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine and the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines that are currently approved for use in the United States: o The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen Biotech COVID-19 (Ad.26.COV2.S) vaccine on February 27, 2021. o The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is the third COVID-19 vaccine authorized under an EUA for the prevention of COVID-19 in the United States. o The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is a recombinant, replication-incompetent adenovirus serotype 26 (Ad26) vector vaccine. It encodes the stabilized prefusion spike glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. 10 o Vaccination with the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine consists of a single dose (5 × 10 virus particles per 0.5- mL dose) administered intramuscularly. o The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is authorized for persons aged ≥18 years. o The body of evidence for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine was primarily informed by one international Phase III clinical trial initiated in September 2020 that enrolled approximately 40,000 participants aged 18–100 years(median age = 52 years), using two coprimary endpoints: prevention of symptomatic, laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 among persons without evidence of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection occurring a) ≥14 days and b) ≥28 days after vaccination. o Interim findings from this clinical trial indicate that the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine efficacy against symptomatic, laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 was 66.3% ≥14 days after vaccination and 65.5% ≥28 days after vaccination. -

Ayeh1, Vignesh Chidambaram1 and Petros C. Karakousis1,2* Abstract COVID-19 is a novel disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. During the global vaccination rollout, it is vital to thoroughly understand the modes of transmission of the virus in order to prevent further spread of variants and ultimately to end the pandemic. The current literature suggests that SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted among the human population primarily through respiratory droplets and, to a lesser extent, via aerosols. Transmission appears to be affected by temperature, humidity, precipitation, air currents, pH, and radiation in the ambient environment. Finally, the use of masks or facial coverings, social distancing, and hand washing are effective public health strategies in reducing the risk of exposure and transmission. Additional research is needed to further characterize the relative benefits of specific nonpharmaceutical interventions. FINCANTIERI: “MAJESTIC PRINCESS” DELIVERED IN MONFALCONE Princess Cruises will deploy the ship on the Chinese market Trieste, March 30, 2017 – “Majestic Princess”, the third Royal Princess class unit built by Fincantieri for the shipowner Princess Cruises, a brand of the Carnival Group, the world's largest cruise ship operator, was delivered today at the Monfalcone shipyard in the presence of the Italian Prime Minister, Paolo Gentiloni. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Debora Serracchiani, for the ship owner by Micky Arison, Chairman of Carnival Corporation, Arnold Donald, CEO of Carnival Corporation, Stein Kruse, CEO of Holland America Group, and Jan Swartz, Group President of Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia. Fincantieri was represented by Giampiero Massolo, Chairman and Giuseppe Bono, CEO. Built on the basis of the successful project of the “Royal Princess” and “Regal Princess” sister ships, realized and delivered in the same shipyard of Monfalcone respectively in 2013 and 2014 and introducing a new generation of ships so well-received by the cruise passengers, the new 145,000 gross tons unit, which also is the largest ship ever built in Italy, is be able to accommodate 4,250 passengers on board in 1,780 cabins and 1,350 members of the crew. “Majestic Princess”, which flies the Bermuda flag, features a new livery with Princess Cruises historic logo painted on both sides on the bow of the ship and Chinese ideograms “Shèng Shì Gng Zh Haò”, meaning “Grand Spirit”. It is the first ship specifically designed and built by Fincantieri for the Chinese market: in fact, a number of new venues have been created on board, like karaoke rooms and restaurants dedicated to different kinds of food with a wide array of culinary choices, expressly tailored for the Chinese passenger’s tastes and habits.
