The Rumble with Mahayla & Matt ONE NIGHT STAND THE RUMBLE WITH MAHAYLA & MATT NOVEMBER 23 @ 7PM ET With Hosts MAHAYLA LAURENCE & MATT GEHRING THE RUMBLE WITH MAHAYLA & MATT NOVEMBER 23 @ 7PM ET THE TEAM Hosts MAHAYLA LAURENCE & MATT GEHRING Featuring MODEL MAJORITY, ANNABEL & SABINA MESCHKE, TIM PLATT, SHIZ, ALEX SONG-XIA & ADDIE WEYRICH THE ARTISTS WOULD LIKE TO THANK The Ars Nova Team & Myrna Conn! Ars Nova operates on the unceded land of the Lenape peoples on the island of Manhahtaan (Mannahatta) in Lenapehoking, the Lenape Homeland. We acknowledge the brutal history of this stolen land and the displacement and dispossession of its Indigenous people. We also acknowledge that after there were stolen lands, there were stolen people. We honor the generations of displaced and enslaved people that built, and continue to build, the country that we occupy today. We gathered together in virtual space to watch this performance. We encourage you to consider the legacies of colonization embedded within the technology and structures we use and to acknowledge its disproportionate impact on communities of color and Indigenous peoples worldwide. We invite you to join us in acknowledging all of this as well as our shared responsibility: to consider our way forward in reconciliation, decolonization, anti-racism and allyship. We commit ourselves to the daily practice of pursuing this work. ABOUT THE ARTISTS MAHAYLA LAURENCE (Host) is an actor and a writer based in Brooklyn, NY. She’s a natural-born empath and loves connecting with people through comedy and storytelling. Mahayla currently writes for the Story Pirates Podcast and SHIZ. MATT GEHRING (Host) is a performer, writer and director of comedy. He’s been on Amazon, Netflix and Comedy Central and has spent years on the UCB stage. Currently, he is collaborating with National Lampoon on his Broadway-Meets-Sketch show, SHIZ. Team members have appeared on SNL, Comedy Central, The Last OG, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Blue Bloods, Blacklist and Law & Order: SVU; as well as Broadway shows, UCB, top comedy clubs and festivals. ModelMajority.com ANNABEL & SABINA MESCHKE are identical twins, both the evil one. In addition to being featured on Vulture, Buzzfeed, Cosmopolitan and more for their “comedy,” they’ve also had their fair share of viral tweets (@annabel_meschke & @sabinaMeschke) which they are told can be cleared right up with the proper ointment. TIM PLATT is a comedian seen on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Masterclass with Steve Martin. He is one of Comedy Central’s 2019 Up Next Comedians, a castmember on the D&D podcast Rude Tales of Magic, and has written music for Sesame Street and The Story Pirates. SHIZ Broadway Meets Sketch Comedy. A musical sketch show that is the brainchild of Shaina Taub and Matt Gehring featuring Broadway (and Broadway-worthy) writers and performers. Music directed by Myrna Conn. ALEX SONG-XIA is a writer, actor and comedian from Toronto and based in New York. Her writing credits include The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC) and Night of Too Many Stars (HBO). As an actor, Alex has appeared in The Week Of (Netflix) and High Maintenance (HBO). ADDIE WEYRICH is a Philly-raised, NY- and LA-based comedian, actor, writer and host. You can see her acting in shows on HBO, Amazon and Adultswim, or as the "Differin Acne Gel girl." She has great skin. ARS NOVA 2020 BOARD OF DIRECTORS TEAM JENNY STEINGART JASON EAGAN JASON P. • Photojournalism Photojournalism
Photojournalism For this section, we'll be looking at photojournalism's impact on shaping people's opinions of the news & world events. Photojournalism From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism (the collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) that employs images in order to tell a news story. It is now usually understood to refer only to still images, but in some cases the term also refers to video used in broadcast journalism. Photojournalism is distinguished from other close branches of photography (e.g., documentary photography, social documentary photography, street photography or celebrity photography) by complying with a rigid ethical framework which demands that the work be both honest and impartial whilst telling the story in strictly journalistic terms. Photojournalists create pictures that contribute to the news media, and help communities connect with one other. Photojournalists must be well informed and knowledgeable about events happening right outside their door. They deliver news in a creative format that is not only informative, but also entertaining. Timeliness The images have meaning in the context of a recently published record of events. Objectivity The situation implied by the images is a fair and accurate representation of the events they depict in both content and tone. Narrative The images combine with other news elements to make facts relatable to audiences. Like a writer, a photojournalist is a reporter, but he or she must often make decisions instantly and carry photographic equipment, often while exposed to significant obstacles (e.g., physical danger, weather, crowds, physical access).
