The nearest town is Bandar Raub which is located approximately 39 km from the project site. While the nearest settlement around the project site is located about 3 km radius eastern part of the boundary of the project site called Kemajuan Tanah Tersang (FELDA). b) Access Road The project site can be accessed from Bentong through Federal Route 8 and further to Bandar Raub then take Route C5 (Jalan Cheroh - Batu Malim). The access to the project site is located on the left side of Jalan Cheroh - Batu Malim which is about 39 km from the Bandar Raub. The road will continue with the existing logging road for about 3 km (plantation road with coordinate: 04° 01‟ 56.72” N and 101° 46‟ 47.84” E) to the project site. The access road is located to the south of the project site and will be used during the construction phase and operation phase. c) Project Concept The project involves a total of 297.70 hectares (735.63 acres) of land area. The project site will be logged first and then will be developed as forest plantation and planted with recommended forest species which suggested by Department of Forestry (DOF) and Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB). Forest Land The existing condition of the project site is a Permanent Forest Reserve; Hutan Simpan Kekal Tersang. This forest reserve dominates the northern, northwest, west and southern part of the project site. The distance of the Batu Talam Forest Reserve boundary and the project site boundary is approximately 3 km. ii. Agriculture Other than forests, the main landuse surrounding the project site is oil palm plantations. These oil palm plantations are mostly located to the northeast, east and southeast of the project site which is owned by FELDA. This oil palm plantation (FELDA Tersang) located about ±1 km from the project boundary. iii. Settlements The nearest village located about 3 km to the north of the project site is a traditional Orang Asli village (Kg. Kabang and Kg. Belau Sinderut). The FELDA residence i.e. Felda Tersang 1, Felda Tersang 2 and Felda Tersang 3 is located at the eastern part while Taman Dato' Tg. Paris is located at the southern part. The highest elevation in the project site is 300 m while the lowest is 60 m above mean sea level. There is one major river systems within the project site which is Sg. Tersang. c) Geology The project site lies under Devonian. This event is characterized by phyllite, schist and slate; limestone and sandstone locally prominent. d) Soil Four mapping unit have been mapped in the area which were BGR/3, BGR/4, BGR/5 and steepland. The value of the soil erosion potential under existing conditions for both methods (DOA and DID) are shown in Table 3.1. Whilst the estimated sediment yield is 19.65 mt/event. Tersang. The length of Sg. Tersang is approximately 10 km and this river finally will drained/discharge into Sg. Lipis. f) Climate and Meteorology The description of the climate in the project site and its surroundings is based on data obtained from the nearest meteorological stations i.e. at Felda Tersang 1(4° 00‟ N; 101° 47' E) and in Batu Embun (3° 58‟ N; 102° 21' E). The mean total annual rainfall for the years 2005-2014 was 2190.8 mm. The percentage of calm is 32.8 %. The highest and lowest percentages of wind blow were 14 % and 3.6 % come from the north and southwest respectively. The highest mean temperature was about 27.53 °C which occurred in May while the lowest mean temperature was 25.65 °C (in December). The highest mean relative humidity for year 2013 which was about 86.57% while the lowest mean relative humidity occurred in 2010 at 82.58%. g) Ambient Air Quality There are three ambient air quality monitoring stations selected for the study. The parameter measured was Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) and the baseline values for TSP ranging between 28µg/m3 to 41µg/m3. Only vehicular movements that produce exhaust emissions can contribute to temporary air pollution in the area. ECO SYNERGY SOLUTIONS SDN BHD | 7 THE PROPOSED 297.70 HECTARES (735.63 ACRES) OF FOREST PLANTATION IN TERSANG PERMANENT FOREST RESERVE, MUKIM BATU TALAM, DISTRICT OF RAUB, PAHANG DARUL MAKMUR h) Ambient Noise Level Three locations of ambient noise level monitoring stations were selected. The results of the analysis LAeq ranged between 45.3 dBA to 54.6dBA for day time. For night time, the LAeq ranged between 39.6 dBA to 41.8dBA. Therefore, all the sampling stations comply with the recommended limit. i) Water Quality Ten water samples were collected within and outside the project site to obtain the existing conditions of water quality before any logging activities and other development take place. Based on the calculations of the WQI the range of WQI for all stations is between 79.03 to 90.97 (Clean to Slightly Polluted). 4.0 EXISTING ENVIRONMENT: BIOLOGICAL SYSTEM a) Terrestrial Flora The flora assessment has been conducted in one transect line along the trekking trail which start from coordinate 04° 04 '15" N and 101° 45' 58" E to 04° 05 '11" N and 101° 45' 42"E between elevation 100 m to 167m above sea level. Results of floristic composition for the study area are divided into five categories in terms of habit of the plants which is trees, shrubs, climbers (lianas), fern/fern-allies, herbaceous and rattans/palm. The overall assessment found that the tree composition in study area contained 125 species derive from 92 genus and come from 51 family. The average total estimated aboveground biomass (TAGB) at the project site was 130t/ha. 12 Jurnal Perspektif Jil. 5 Bil. 3 (12-30) ISSN 1985 - 496X Analisis Hujan Jangka Panjang dari tahun 1960-2010 di Wilayah Barat Semenanjung Malaysia Analysis of Long-Term Rainfall from 1960-2010 in the West Peninsula Malaysia Siti Hawa Kamaludin, Mohmadisa Hashim, Mohamad Suhaily Yusri Che Ngah, Nasir Nayan, Yazid Saleh Kumpulan Penyelidik Impak Pembangunan & Persekitaran, Jabatan Geografi & Alam Sekitar, Fakulti Sains Kemanusiaan, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, 35900 Tanjong Malim, Perak e-mel: [email protected] Abstrak Kajian ini bertujuan mengesahkan semula ciri-ciri hujan wilayah barat yang telah dibentuk berdasarkan Dale pada 1959.
