  • The Husby Riots in Stockholm
The Husby riots in Stockholm By Kristoffer Eriksson Today's riots and frustration in Husby (Stockholm) is a sign that something is not good in the Swedish system. They are those who are trying to gain cheap and populist points from the riots in Husby. But, there is a "Swedish tradition" of those in Sweden who are at the bottom of the Swedish social hierarchy to rebel or show their displeasure. The population of Scania (Skåne), Dalecarlia (Dalarna), Smolandia (Småland), Halland, Finns, peasants, workers, statare1, etc.. they all have rebelled against injustice in the Swedish society. The list is long: the Engelbrecht rebellion in 1434; the Peasant uprisings in Finland in 1438; the Dalarna uprisings in1524-1525, 1527-1528, 1531-1533; the Dacke rising 1542; Lappvesi peasant uprising (at that time, the Swedish South Karelia) 1551-1553; the Cudgel War (Finnish Ostrobothnia) 1596: The Great dalecarlian dance in 1743; the Klågerup riots 1811: the Hunger and military demonstrations in 1917; the Möllevång riots in 1926; the Ådalen shootings in 1931; the Berzelli riots 1951: the Battle of Hötorget Square in 1965; the Hötorget Square riots in 1965; the Gothenburg riots in 2001: the riots in Rosengård in 2008, and now the Husby riots in 2013. These are just a few, the list is even longer. The riots in Rosengård 2008 and now in Husby are no new phenomenon in Swedish history. Since Sweden emerged as a nation sometime in 1000-1200's, those who have found themselves at the bottom of the Swedish social hierarchy, the most socially vulnerable, oppressed and disadvantaged, have rebelled against injustice.

  • The Viruan (Middle Ordovician) of Öland
The Viruan (Middle Ordovician) of Öland By Valdar Jaanusson ABSTRACT.-The stratigraphy and lithology of the Viruan (Middle Ordovician) Iimestones of the bed-rock of Öland are described based on three bares and on field work in the outcrop area. A combined litho- and bio-stratigraphic classification (termed topo-stratigraphic) is introduced for the described sequence. The names of the Estonian stages (Aserian, Lasnamägian, Uhakuan, and Kukrusean) are used as chrono-stratigraphic references instead of the previous Swedish names of the units of stage category (Platyurus, Schroeteri, Crassicauda, and Ludibundus, re spectivcly). New topo-stratigraphic divisions are Segerstad Limestone (of Aserian age), Skärlöv, Seby, and Folkeslunda Limestones (of Lasnamägian age), Furudal, Källa, and Persnäs Lime stones (of Uhakuan age), and Dalby Limestone (of Kukrusean age in the bed-rock of Öland). The Aserian Lasnamägian topo-stratigraphic divisions have the same lithological characteris and tics throughout Öland. The Uhakuan beds are developed as calcilutites (Furudal Limestone) on southern Öland continuing as a tongue (Källa Limestone) on northern Öland. The middle and upper part of the Uhakuan beds of northern Öland consist of calcarenites (Persnäs Limestone) lithologically indistiguishable from the Kukrusean Dalby Limestone which forms the bed-rock only on northern Öland. Within the Segerstad Limestone two zones are distinguished (z. of Angelinoceras latum and z. of Illaenus planifrons).H ouvr ' s zones of Lituites discors, L. lituus, and L. perfectus are of Lasna mägian age, and their stratigraphic position and fauna! characteristics are described. The Swedish Association for Transhumance and Pastoralism Förbundet Svensk Fäbodkultur och utmarksbruk (FSF) www.fabod.nu Mr Kenneth Johansson. Chairman Outland grazing in the archipelagos, forests and mountains has a long history in Scandinavia and in practice all over Sweden from pre-historic times. Through millennia it has evolved regimes utilizing grazing resources and integrated milk processing at summer farms, “fäbod”, in distance from the homestead. That has been the basis for a special Nordic rural culture heritage and a unique biological diversity in the Nordic culture landscape. Today this very special “fäbod”- culture heritage, tradition and grazing regime is under threat in Sweden. The challenge: How to improve conditions and safeguard in Sweden this historically founded “fäbod”- culture, with associated customary use, traditional knowledge and all other added values? ”Ennarbol” säter, Stöllet, Värmland county ”Mattsåsen” fäbod, Venjan, Dalarna county Swedish mountain cattle, traditional breed Swedish red polled. traditional breed ”Brindberg” fäbod, Älvdalen, Dalarna county Swedish mountain cattle, traditional breed ”Svedbovallen” fäbod, Järvsö, Gävleborg county Swedish goat, traditional breed Myhrbodarna” fäbod, Valsjöbyn, Jämtland county Swedish mountain cattle, traditional breed Swedish goat, traditional breed Map of ”fäbod”-culture geographical assumed historical distribution In Fennoscandia Historical overwiew of ”fäbod”-sites in Dalarna county. Comments received for ISO 639-3 Change Request 2015-046 Outcome: Accepted after appeal Effective date: May 27, 2016 SIL International ISO 639-3 Registration Authority 7500 W. Camp Wisdom Rd., Dallas, TX 75236 PHONE: (972) 708-7400 FAX: (972) 708-7380 (GMT-6) E-MAIL: [email protected] INTERNET: http://www.sil.org/iso639-3/ Registration Authority decision on Change Request no. 2015-046: to create the code element [ovd] Ӧvdalian . The request to create the code [ovd] Ӧvdalian has been reevaluated, based on additional information from the original requesters and extensive discussion from outside parties on the IETF list. The additional information has strengthened the case and changed the decision of the Registration Authority to accept the code request. In particular, the long bibliography submitted shows that Ӧvdalian has undergone significant language development, and now has close to 50 publications. In addition, it has been studied extensively, and the academic works should have a distinct code to distinguish them from publications on Swedish. One revision being added by the Registration Authority is the added English name “Elfdalian” which was used in most of the extensive discussion on the IETF list. Michael Everson [email protected] May 4, 2016 This is an appeal by the group responsible for the IETF language subtags to the ISO 639 RA to reconsider and revert their earlier decision and to assign an ISO 639-3 language code to Elfdalian. The undersigned members of the group responsible for the IETF language subtag are concerned about the rejection of the Elfdalian language. There is no doubt that its linguistic features are unique in the continuum of North Germanic languages.

The Horseshoe of Fennoscandia-A corridor for the long term survival of old-growth forest dependent species in Norway, Sweden and Finland. Rein Midteng, Asplan Viak. Norway. [email protected] 1.What is the Horseshoe of Fennoskandia? 2. What is its ecologial function? 3. Which subparts does it consist of? 4.Transboundary zones 5. How continuous and broad is the Horseshoe? 6. Key regions and areas in need of protection 7. Futher emphazis Un-protected old-growth forest in Pasvik 1.What is the Horseshoe of Fennoskandia? • Its a more or less continously corridor of old-growth forests from southern Finland/southeast Karealia to southern Norway/Sweden. • It consists of four subparts that are connected as a whole. These four subparts are although presented individually. In addition, it exists so called transboundary zones, which are “green” corridors with mostly continuously old-growth forests that stretch out from the Horseshoe. • Old-growth forests dominate the Horseshoe while in the rest of Fennoscandia culture forests dominate. • It consist of both protected and unprotected old-growth forests. • It includes a great variation of vegetationzones and foresttypes. • It is of major importance in the implementation of the Nagaya goals • It is of major importance for the preservation of old-growth forest species in Norway, Sweden, Finland and probably also in some parts of Russia. 2. What is its (ecologial) function? • It is a migrationzone east-west (since the last ice age), and the Fennoscandinavian countries share therefore to a large extent the same flora and fauna as Russia (low level of endemism). • It provides an exchange of species, individuals and genes to and forth in the Horseshoe.
