SECIA O M AAIC EWS AMO I Hampton Academy's sixth grade recently hosted the annual Greek Day, a curricular event celebrating the ancient culture that left many "gifts" such as democracy, language, philosophy, and architecture. The day entailed a modified version of the Olympics played out by the students as participants and the staff as mythological gods and goddesses as team leaders. 4 . Each group was assigned a team color and was given directions on how to make a proper khiton (toga) to wear the day of the festivities. Parent volunteers played a role by running each event station and keeping track of each group's progress to be used at the awards ceremony. The sixth graders were also proud to feature the third annual presentation of Greek Theater in the Eastman Gym. Mr. Jeffrey Benoit of Essex, Connecticut per- formed a dynamic and interactive program of mythol- ogy called "Chariot of the Sun" (for more information see www.chariotusa.com ). The students walked away with a greater under- standing of the ancient culture and the spirit of Arete, the belief that "you should always give your greatest effort"
