WESTERN’S LAST OUTING: Western’s 31-27 victory over then-No.15/16 Montana marked not only its first SOCIAL MEDIA win of the season but also one of its largest fourth-quarter comebacks in program history. In-game tweets are available by following Leatherneck Football on Twitter @WIUFootball. Quarterback Sean McGuire pinned the Griz at their two-yard line with a pooch punt – just his second career punt – and Western’s defense allowed four yards in a three-and-out. Steve McShane returned the ensuing punt 58 yards down the sideline for a touchdown, and on the very first play of UM’s next drive, Justin Fitzpatrick and Zach Muniz combined on a forced fumble and recovery. The takeaway led to McShane’s second trip to the end zone (an 11-yard reception) which cemented Western’s victory. When trailing by 10 or more points in the final frame, Western has won eight career games (in the Division I era). 2018 SCHEDULE / NOTES DATE OPPONENT TIME/RESULTS ALL-TIME SERIES GAME NOTES / MEETING HIGHLIGHTS A30 at Montana State L, 23-26 Montana State leads, 3-0 Steve McShane scored all three of Western’s touchdowns at Montana State S9 at Illinois L, 14-34 Illinois leads, 3-0 George Wahee recorded a game-high, Leatherneck-high 104 receiving yards with one touchdown S15 Montana W, 31-27 Western leads, 3-1 WIU scored two TDs in the first 2:13 of the game and two in the final five minutes in the comeback win S29 Youngstown State 3 p.m. YSU leads, 19-12 HOMECOMING WEEKEND O6 at Illinois State 2 p.m. Western leads, 51-46-3 --- O13 North Dakota State 6 p.m. NDSU leads, 7-2 --- O20 at Missouri State 2 p.m. Series tied at 17-17-1 --- O27 Northern Iowa 1 p.m. UNI leads, 31-15 --- N3 at Southern Illinois 1 p.m. Western leads, 36-23-4 --- N10 at South Dakota 1 p.m. Western leads, 5-3 --- N17 Indiana State 1 p.m. Western leads, 26-15 --- WESTERN ILLINOIS FOOTBALL vs YOUNGSTOWN STATE 2017 FACTS WESTERN QUICK FACTS # WEEKS RANKED ........................................................................................................ 14 (STATS FCS) Founded ......................................................................................................1899 HIGHEST RANKING ..................................................................................#9 (STATS FCS / TWO WEEKS) Enrollment ................................................................................................. 10,373 FINAL RANKING ..........................................................................................................#13 (STATS FCS) Nickname Fighting ..........................................................................
