University of Birmingham Sport press release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE University of Birmingham athletes on the road to Rio One current student and eight alumni athletes from the University of Birmingham Sport have now been confirmed for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. This is a record breaking number of Birmingham educated athletes to be selected for the Olympics, showing that the sport programme at Birmingham continues to thrive. Lily Owsley, who currently studies Sport and Exercise Science has already made headlines worldwide this year. She was part of the England hockey squad who won the European Championships, as well as being named Rising Star of the Year by the International Hockey Federation. Owsley has achieved all this in a year where she was taken ill with meningitis and fractured her collar bone in a match against Australia. Also joining Lily on the Team GB women’s hockey squad at the Rio Olympics will be University of Birmingham alumni Sophie Bray and Ellie Watton (reserve). Simon Mantell, who graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2007, has been selected for the Team GB men’s hockey squad as a reserve. One of the University of Birmingham Sport’s most successful alumni of recent years, Non Stanford, who took up triathlon in her second year at University and then went on to become ITU World U23 Champion in 2013, will also be representing Team GB. Stanford, who trains alongside the Brownlee brothers, has been marked as a medal contender making Team GB’s triathlon team a force to be reckoned with. Non Stanford’s University housemate, Sara Treacy, has also been selected to represent Ireland in the 3000m steeplechase. -

Greater Manchester is changing. Not only is it growing, both in terms of population and economy, it is also on a path towards significant devolution of powers and funding from central Government, supported by a directly- elected mayor. It is in this context of change that we are developing our 2040 Transport Strategy. 2. The aim is to establish a fully integrated, high capacity transport system for Greater Manchester, with travelling customers at its heart. 3. Transport is crucial in supporting Greater Manchester’s ambitious plans – growth will need and be driven by new connectivity. This is true on both a local and pan-northern level; Greater Manchester has a fundamental role to play at the heart of a successful Northern Powerhouse. 4. Why 2040? The opportunities offered by devolution and greater local determination allow us to take a much bolder and longer-term view of our transport needs. We want to take this opportunity to ensure that we can sustain the success of Greater Manchester for generations to come. 5. Our 2040 Vision for Transport, which we consulted on in 2015, set the scene for the start of a radical, and ambitious, new approach to planning our transport system in support of long-term needs and aspirations. -

The season 2015/16 was again a huge success for Rugby in the County with the Bucks U 20 XV reaching the semi-final of the county plate competition and the senior XV also getting to the semi- final of their competition. This is the furthest either team have reached in the County’s history. As a County we seem to produce some very talented players, and this is very much down to the Clubs and Schools in our area being “Development” focused and ensuring that the most talented get the exposure they deserve. We intend as County to continue this theme every season and ensure that as many players as possible have the opportunity to play at their highest potential level. -

Part 1 ITEM No 7 ___________________________________________________________________ REPORT OF THE CITY MAYOR TO COUNCIL ON 17th SEPTEMBER 2014 ___________________________________________________________________ TITLE: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: CITY MAYOR’S MID-TERM REPORT ___________________________________________________________________ RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that Council endorse the progress in taking forward the City Plan’s priorities for the City. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Plan sets out the priorities for the City of Salford over the next three years and the commitments of the City Council over the same period. The plan was developed in partnership with local people, partners and stakeholders following extensive consultation. This mid-term report sets out progress in delivering the specific commitments contained within the City Plan. BACKGROUND DOCUMENTS: City Plan 2013-2016 ___________________________________________________________________ KEY DECISION: NO ___________________________________________________________________ DETAILS: 1. Background 1.1 I published the first three year City Plan in October 2013. The Plan set out a clear strategic framework for the City and for the City Council over that period. 1.2 The priorities within the City Plan were identified following extensive consultation with Salford’s residents through the Connecting Salford consultation which I launched in late 2012. 1.3 The Plan identified four strategic priorities: Connecting people to economic opportunities Protecting the most vulnerable Reforming public services Communities working together 1.4 Almost twelve months on from publication of the City Plan, this report provides an update on our success in delivering against the ambitions and commitments made. 2. State of the City 2.1 Salford is a dynamic city. Understanding how the city is changing is key to enable us to continue to provide high quality services that are relevant to local people, and that will support continued growth and opportunities for our residents. -

MIDDLESEX NOTES ON THE RFU COUNCIL MEETING Held at East Stand, Twickenham - 8th February 2019 The meeting was chaired by the President, Chris Kelly. 1. CHAIRMAN’S UPDATE Andy Cosslett - Chairman of the Board 1.1 CEO a. Following Steve Brown’s departure, Nigel Melville has become interim CEO. Nigel Melville has received excellent support from the rest of the executive team. b. The CEO recruitment process is well underway. The first round of interviews has been completed and the second and final round has commenced. 1.2 Communications a. Andy Cosslett informed the meeting that he was aware of concerns about the flow of information in the Union and is reviewing communications between the Board, the Executive and Council. b. Part of the problem are the long gaps between Council meetings. To bridge this a monthly update will be provided to Council from the Chairman & CEO. c. Consideration is also being given to regular Council teleconferences. d. In addition, a survey of Council members is being planned to identify what further information needs to be provided and to assist in identifying improved methods of working to make use of the extensive experience of Council members whilst reducing the time commitment. It is hoped that this will take place in March 2019. 1.3 Board The Board has been concentrating on the following key issues: a. Player welfare. b. The challenges and opportunities facing professional rugby (both on and off the field) at national and international level. c. The preparation of the 2019/20 business plan. 2. INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND WORLD RUGBY REPRESENTATIVE APPOINTMENTS Andy Cosslett - Chairman of the Board 2.1 Independent Non-Executive Director Council APPROVED the recommendation of the Board Nominations Committee that Dominic Proctor be elected for a second term as one of the three INEDs on the Board. -

To appoint BDO LLP as Auditors to audit the 2020/2021 financial statements. 5. To approve changes to the Rules attached to this Notice as Appendix 2 6. To consider any other business of which due notice shall have been given. 7. To hear any other relevant matter for the consideration of the Council and/or the Board of Directors during the ensuing year, but on which no voting shall be allowed. 8. To approve the following Board appointments: 8.1 Chair of the Board of Directors 8.2 Independent Non-Executive Director 9. ITEM 5 TO APPROVE CHANGES TO THE RULES To approve the changes to the Rules, as set out in a redline version in Appendix 1 and a clean version in Appendix 2. We would like to highlight the following changes: Rule 21.1 – signature of the Annual Report and Accounts Currently, the Rules require that the annual report and accounts are signed by the CEO and two Council members.
