No reuse allowed without permission. 23 Abstract 24 During the last decade, the endosymbiont bacterium Wolbachia has emerged as a 25 biological tool for vector disease control. However, for long time, it was believed that 26 Wolbachia was absent in natural populations of Anopheles. The recent discovery that 27 species within the Anopheles gambiae complex hosts Wolbachia in natural conditions 28 has opened new opportunities for malaria control research in Africa.
