Total production of palay in MIMAROPA for the first quarter of 2019 shifted down to 311,009.50 MT or 0.96 percent lower as compared with 314,025 MT of same quarter in 2018. The 3,015.5 MT decline was due to cutback in area harvested attributed to lesser plantings because of inadequate irrigation water supply and rehabilitation of line canal in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and 333 hectares totally damaged by intense heat/El Niño; less distribution of seeds from DA-RFO/LGU and excessive water due to above normal rainfall during planting months in Oriental Mindoro; insufficient rainfall in Marinduque; and anticipation for inadequate rainfall during first quarter in Romblon.

Overall corn production in MIMAROPA for the first quarter of 2019 dropped by 16.03 percent against 57,109 MT in 2018.
