ASTRAL MEDIA AND CORUS PREMIUM SIGN 8 PIC OUTPUT DEAL WITH Minds Eye Entertainment

Regina, SK/, ON -Astral Television Networks/Astral Télé Réseaux, an company and Corus Premium Television will be the first to feature eight new films from 's heartland.

The networks announced today that they have signed a comprehensive multi-picture output deal with Minds Eye Entertainment of Regina, Saskatchewan. This agreement marks the first North American broadcast deal for the films, which were produced as part of Minds Eye's "Saskatoon Initiative" to create a skilled labour base of local crew for the thriving motion picture industry. TMN -The Movie Network, Super Écran and Superchannel will begin airing the movies in 2001.

The first movie completed for the multi-pic package is Without Malice. The film stars Craig Sheffer (The Fall, A River Runs Through It) as Dr. Paul Venters, a self-centered plastic surgeon who takes his brother-in-law-to-be Marty, an ex-con and recovering addict played by (The Lost Boys), to a remote northern location to hunt elk. While hunting they shoot a park officer, and instead of reporting the accident, try to flee town in a series of ill-fated attempts. Investigating the homicide is Jennifer Beals (Flashdance) as Park Warden Sam Wilkes, whose calm resolve leads her through the wilderness to the murderer. In a supporting role, Gabrielle Anwar (Scent of a Woman) appears as Dr. Venters fiancŽe and Marty's sister Susan. Without Malice was filmed in and around Prince Albert National Park, showcasing the resort town of Waskesiu and nearby Elkridge development.

Without Malice is directed by Genie-nominated Rob King (Something More, Talker) and written by Canadian Peter Layton. Executive Producers are Kevin DeWalt and Susan Cooper. Producers are Kevin DeWalt and Rhonda Baker, Associate Producer is Tony Towstego of Thomega Entertainment. Director of Photography is Ken Krawczyk, c.s.c. The Eight pictures in the deal are distributed in North America by Minds Eye International.

The Second movie in the package is Murder Seen, a suspense thriller about a psychic co-ed tormented by the chilling details of a mysterious kidnapping on her college campus. The movie stars Nicole Eggert (Anything for Love, ) as the brainy and beautiful botany student Zoey Drayden, with Callum Keith Rennie (eXistenZ, Hard Core Logo) as the intrepid Detective Keegan. Timothy Bottoms (The Man in the Iron Mask, Absolute Force) plays the role of gruff detective Stepnoski and Kent Allen (Big Bear, Painted Doves) appears in a leading role as kidnapper and madman Ivan Stark.
