The Ten Commandments are a set of rules or laws. God gave them to the people of Israel. The commandments exist in different versions. One version can be found in the of the Bible but there are other versions within the Bible.

In the Book of Exodus, the mountain where The Commandments were given, is called , another Book talks about Mount Horeb. Both are probably different names for the same mountain.

These rules are important for Judaism and Christianity. Countries which follow those religions have some of the Commandments as part of their Civil laws.

Sometimes these rules are also called Decalogue this is a Greek work meaning ten statements. Stories in the Bible say that received the Ten Commandments on a stone tablet.

These commandments, or rules, were written to guide Christians in the way to live their lives. They help Christians to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

It is not only in Christianity that rules are important. People who have different beliefs or follow no religion still follow the rules of society in order to create a world that we can all live in together. In our community, our school and our class it is also important that we have our own set of rules. Why do you think this is?
