Inspirational speakers Job interviews Dear Colleagues:

Imagine attending a series of stimulating back-to-back education sessions then hik- ing the world-famous Diamond Head volcanic tuft to complete your day with one of the most breathtaking views you’ll ever see… or taking an early morning walk down the beautiful white sands of Waikiki beach before joining your peers for a powerful keynote address… or sitting down to savor a cup of Kona coffee on a patio filled with colorful Hibiscus plants, in preparation to explore the Expo hall.

The ACA 2014 Conference & Expo will be so much more than an event. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience—a unique combination of stunning natural beauty and unparalleled career development.

There are so many wonderful opportunities that await us in Hawaii, but I’d like to point out a few that I feel really represent the true spirit of ACA.

• The Client-Focused Research Series: This unique set of programming gives attendees a chance to come face-to-face with cutting-edge research conducted exclusively by ACA membership. To me, this level of personal commitment is especially inspiring.

• The Graduate Students and New Professionals Only Series: Students and new profes- sionals have different needs. These streamlined, information/advice-packed sessions speak directly to those needs. Be prepared to take lots of notes!

• International presidential sessions: Never underestimate the power of perspective. I am hosting these special sessions featuring leaders from counseling organizations outside of the U.S. to encourage dialogue and expand horizons. Open to all.

• Leadership development sessions: Counseling leadership at the national, regional, and local levels is critical to the success and longevity of our profession. Attendees will emerge with solid strategies for making a difference. Open to all.

• Educational programming covering the revised ACA Code of Ethics and DSM-5 changes: These are hot topics for 2014 and beyond. Make sure you soak up as much as you can.

From CEs and Red Cross certification to job interviews and private practice consultations, the ACA 2014 Conference covers all the bases for all counseling professionals. Take a look through this booklet to get a better sense of what’s ahead. I look forward to seeing you on the beautiful island of Oahu.

Academy Award-Nominated Director of and Documentary Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock is an award-winning writer, director, and producer best known for his immer- sive explorations of the social issues that both directly and indirectly shape the choices and life paths of our clients, students, colleagues… and ourselves. As a man with his finger on the pulse Opening Keynote of a rapidly changing society, Spurlock will share experiences, insights, and reflections from the Speaker front lines of American culture. His first feature length film, Super Size Me, played in more than 100 countries, influenced school lunch programs across the nation, empowered millions to change their own eating habits, and eliminated super size options from the world’s largest fast food chain. The film was also used by senators, congressmen, and lobby groups as a call to action for multiple food and education related causes. Other accomplishments include: the critically acclaimed FX program, 30 Days, which dealt with such polarizing issues as the minimum wage, prison reform, abortion, and gun control; Where in the World is Osama bin Laden?, which was named “one of the most important films of the year” by the Islamic Society of North America; The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice!; the film adaptation of the best selling book Freakonomics; and POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, a documentary about branding, advertising, and product placement, which was funded by branding, advertising, and product placement, and made some serious points about the ubiquity of branding in our daily lives. In April 2012, Spurlock’s released the documentary, Comic-Con Episode IV – A Fan’s Hope, which follows a group of attendees around the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. A month later, his doc Mansome hit theaters, which features an all-star cast of commentators including Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Zach Galifianakis who hilariously opine on the grooming habits of the 21st century man. In 2013, Spurlock returned to TV as host and producer of the CNN original series, Inside Man. Each week Spurlock provides an insider’s view into rarely-seen sectors of American life that include gun lovers, marijuana growers, migrant farm workers, and end-of-life caregivers.
