Keynote Speakers Morgan Spurlock Friday, March 28 | 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Hawaii Convention Center, Kalakaua Ballroom Academy Award-Nominated Director of Super Size Me and Documentary Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock is an award-winning writer, director, and producer best known for his immer- sive explorations of the social issues that both directly and indirectly shape the choices and life paths of our clients, students, colleagues… and ourselves. As a man with his finger on the pulse Opening Keynote of a rapidly changing society, Spurlock will share experiences, insights, and reflections from the Speaker front lines of American culture. His first feature length film, Super Size Me, played in more than 100 countries, influenced school lunch programs across the nation, empowered millions to change their own eating habits, and eliminated super size options from the world’s largest fast food chain. The film was also used by senators, congressmen, and lobby groups as a call to action for multiple food and education related causes. Other accomplishments include: the critically acclaimed FX program, 30 Days, which dealt with such polarizing issues as the minimum wage, prison reform, abortion, and gun control; Where in the World is Osama bin Laden?, which was named “one of the most important films of the year” by the Islamic Society of North America; The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice!; the film adaptation of the best selling book Freakonomics; and POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, a documentary about branding, advertising, and product placement, which was funded by branding, advertising, and product placement, and made some serious points about the ubiquity of branding in our daily lives.

  • Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!
PRESENTS SUPER SIZE ME 2: HOLY CHICKEN! OPENING IN NY/LA/CHI ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2019 ADDITIONAL MARKETS AND ON DEMAND SEPTEMBER 13, 2019 Directed By Morgan Spurlock Written By Morgan Spurlock, Jeremy Chilnick Cinematography By David Garcia-Vlasits Produced By Jeremy Chilnick, Matthew Galkin, Morgan Spurlock, Jessica Calder, Keith Calder, Spencer Silna, Nicole Barton Edited By Pierre Takal Original Score By Tim Garland, Jeff Megan, David Tobin Domestic Distributor: Samuel Goldwyn Films Rating: PG-13 Running Time: 93 Minutes SYNOPSIS In the 15 years since SUPER SIZE ME, the fast-food industry has undergone a makeover. Today, chain restaurants tout food that's "healthy," "organic," and "natural." Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock explores this new reality with an approach even more immersive and subversive than that used for his first film: he sets out to open his own chicken franchise. We follow him every step of the way, from raising poultry and conjuring recipes to designing the brand and scouting a location. Spurlock brings his disarming humor to uncover the truths and lies behind this multibillion-dollar industry. DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT When Super Size Me came out in 2004, it took off like a rocket and connected with audiences in ways I could never imagine, both in the US and around the world. The film finally ignited in people a realization of personal responsibility and a desire to take control of their own lives. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been stopped in airports or on street corners, by teachers, parents or regular joes, who each told me how that film had impacted them.

After the leaders of this occupation put out a call to arms via social media, the Malheur occupiers quickly bolstered their numbers with a stew of right-wing militia, protestors, and onlookers. What began as a protest to condemn the sentencing of two ranchers quickly morphed into a catchall for those eager to register their militant antipathy toward the federal government. During the 41-day siege, the filmmakers were granted remarkable access to the inner workings of the insurrection as the occupiers went about the daily business of engaging in an armed occupation.
