While the majority of the organi-zaons listed are registered at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor with non-profit 501(c)3 legal status, this is not a requirement to be listed in the directory. This project was iniated with the intenon of producing a comprehensive directory of organizaons that serve the community. This is the seventh edion since the directory was originally published in 2004. We connue to update the directory based on changes in the community and informaon provided by the organizaons that have sent us their informaon. We invite all community organizaons not listed to send us your informaon today. Abbreviaons: STJ St. John STT St. Thomas STX St. Croix 6 About the Donors Bart Kavanaugh and Bey Saks established their Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundaon of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) in 2003 with the purpose of strengthening the non-profit community in the territory and promong philanthro- py in the U.S. Virgin Islands. With professional guidance from CFVI, the iniave was launched. This mul- phase project began with conducng a needs assessment. A survey was designed to gather basic contact informaon, leadership profiles, financial data, organizaon- al structure, purpose and developmental needs of non-profit organizaons. Agency leaders were then invited to aend focus groups to engage in a dialogue about both their organizaonal and professional needs. Non-profit agency leaders expressed a real need for a directory of non-profit organizaons to be made availa- ble to the profession for referrals and networking, and to the public to increase awareness of services available. This directory is a product of the iniave. As a service to donors, CFVI is available to provide comprehensive organizaonal profiles of community non-profits to effecvely guide philanthropic giving. CFVI is commied to connecng donors with idenfied community needs. In addion to their work with the non-profit community, Bart Kavanaugh and Bey Saks are commied to improving the early childhood environment in the U.S. Virgin Islands, parcularly as it impacts low wage-earning families. With assistance from Bart, Bey and other donors, CFVI created a program, The Family Connecon, with the mission of strengthening the community child care and early educaon infrastructure in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Now in its ninth year, The Family Connec- on provides free access to books, toys and resources for parents, and child care professionals as well as training programs, networking and resource tools for the territory’s child care providers, early educaon professionals and the parents of young children. For more informaon about this directory or The Family Connecon, please contact the Community Foundaon of the Virgin Islands. 7 About CFVI CFVI’s Mission The Community Foundaon of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) was created to serve both donors and non-profit organizaons of the Virgin Islands that want to ensure the highest quality of life for both present and future generaons. Its primary goal is to build a growing collecon of permanent funds, the income from which will be used to enhance the educaonal, physical, social, cultural and environmental well-being of the islands’ people. The Foundaon, established in 1990, is governed by a volunteer board of directors composed of community leaders interested in the welfare of the Virgin Islands and is managed by a professional staff. Perhaps you have an area of special interest or concern? Your gi to CFVI can help meet today’s needs. And those donors choosing to create a permanently -invested fund will empower their gi to grow and meet tomorrow’s needs too, thereby becoming a legacy for the territory’s future. How to Establish a Fund at CFVI A named fund may be established by a family, individual or corporaon with a gi of $10,000 given once or over five years. The process and the paperwork are straight forward, and donors report that the results are tremendously sasfying. The donor decides the fund’s grant-making purpose and if the fund principal may be distributed. CFVI works to make your philanthropy worry- free. CFVI takes care of grant paperwork, auding, accounng and reporng. Most importantly, you will have joined hundreds of others who have ensured that their giving will benefit our community in perpetuity. The Community Foundaon of the Virgin Islands is a 501( c)3 public charity. Contribuons are deducble to the fullest extent allowed by law. 8 9 Please let us know you are out there!
