Half day tour to world famous Mughal Gardens and visit Nishat Bagh (The Gardens of Pleasure) built by Asif Jha in 1936 and Shalimar Bagh (Abode of Love) built by Jahangir for his beloved wife Nur Jahan in 1619. Proceed to Pari Mahal (The Fairies Abode) built in 1650 by Prince Dara Shikoh, son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, you will also visit Cheshmashahi and Hazratbal Shrine. Overnight at Houseboat Day 2 (Sonamarg) Full day excursion to Sonamarg which is the most beautiful drive from Srinagar. On the way, we will stop at many beautiful spots. Continue drive to Sonamarg also known as the Golden Meadow (2690 meters). One can ride on horse to visit to Thaji was Glacier where snow remains round the year. Overnight at Houseboat. Day 3 (Gulmarg) Full day excursion to Gulmarg which is one of the most beautiful summer resorts in the valley.You will enjoy the splendour of nature and snowy mountains. One can have Gondola Ride (Cable Car) from Gulmarg to Affarwat (World’s Highest Ride). In the evening return Houseboat. Overnight at Houseboat. Day 4 (Pahalgam) Full day excursion to Pahalgam(2440 meters). On the way, you will visit saffron ﬁelds, Awantipura Ruins and Anantnag Sulphur Springs. Enjoy the nature and the roaring rivers. Overnight at Houseboat. Day 5 (Yusmarg) Full day excursion to Yusmarg. Yusmarg is a small meadow set in the heart of mountains to the south-west of Srinagar. It is an ideal picnic spot and the Nilnag Lake can be visited from here. A two hours drive from Srinagar (47 kms ) will take you to acres upon acres of grassy meadow ringed by forests of pine and towering beyond them, awesome and majestic snow clad mountains. Overnight at Houseboat. Day 6 (Lake Tour + Departure) After breakfast, enjoy the lake tour in a luxurious Shikara (paddle boat) to see ﬂoating gardens and interesting canals to Dal Lake. In the afternoon, you will be transfer to the airport for your onward destination. .

Tulip garden of Srinagar March 27, 2021 In News: Asia’s largest tulip garden overlooking the famous Dal Lake in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir was thrown open to the public on Thursday 23, 2021, marking the beginning of the new tourism season in the valley. About Tulip garden of Srinagar Formerly known as Siraj Bagh, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden was opened in 2008 by then chief minister of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state Ghulam Nabi Azad. The idea of the garden, spread over 30 hectares in the foothills of snow-clad Zabarwan range. Tulip Garden Festival in Srinagar where nearly 15 lakh flowers of more than 64 varieties.Apart from tulips, many other species of flowers – hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus have been added. Garden is built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion consisting of seven terraces. Tulip festival: Annual celebration that aims to showcase the range of flowers in the garden as a part of tourism efforts by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. It is organized during the onset of spring season in Kashmir valley. About Zabarwan Range Sub-mountain range between Pir Panjal and Great Himalayan Range. Located in the central part of the Kashmir Valley. The Highest Peak of this range is Mahadev Peak at 13,013 feet (3,966 m). The Shankaracharya Temple is built on the edge of the central part of the Zabarwan Range. THREE HITHERTO UNREPORTED MACRO-FUNGI FROM KASHMIR HIMALAYA SHAUKET AHMED PALA*, ABDUL HAMID WANI, ROUF HAMZA BODA AND RIYAZ AHMED MIR Section of Mycology and Plant Pathology, Department of Botany, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, Hazratbal-190006. *Corresponding author e-mail: [email protected] Abstract The Himalayan state, Jammu and Kashmir due to its climate ranging from tropical deciduous forests to temperate and coniferous forests provides congenial habitat for the growth of diverse macro fungal species which in turn gives it the status of ‘hub’ of macro-fungal species. The macro fungal species richness of the state is directly related to its expansive forest communities and diverse weather patterns, but all the regions of the state have not been extensively surveyed till now. In this backdrop, a systematic survey for exploration and inventorization of macro fungal species of Western Kashmir Himalaya was undertaken during the year 2009 and 2010, which in turn resulted identification of the three species viz., Thelephora caryophyllea (Schaeff.) Pers., Coltricia cinnamomea (Pers.) Murr., and Guepinia helvelloides Fr. as new reports from the Kashmir. These species were identified on the basis of macro and microscopic characters and also the aid of taxonomic keys, field manuals, mushroom herbaria and help from expert taxonomists in the related field was taken into account. Large resources are spent on the development of various urban settlements but the condition of these towns continues to deteriorate because of piecemeal nature of expenditure and lack of definitive development schemes. Adhoc efforts neither result in better environment nor strengthen the economic base. In view of this, Town Planning Organisation, Kashmir has undertaken the preparation of the Master Plans for various towns, which envisages all encompassing development of these towns. Master Plans are expected to give impetus to the development and economic potential of the towns. In the first phase, the Master Plans of district headquarters have been taken up which will be followed up by Master Plans of other small and medium towns. The Government has also decided to outsource few Master Plans; however, the Master Plan for Ganderbal, which is on the threshold of becoming Class I town, has been outsourced to M/S Feedback Infra Private Limited, Gurgaon. The Master Plan-Ganderbal (2012-32) is the first planning effort in Kashmir region that has been outsourced to any private consultant by Town Planning Organisation, Kashmir. The studies involved in the preparation of Master Plan for Ganderbal (2012-32) concerns with the areas crucial to planning and development of the region. It has been a great privilege for M/S Feedback Infra Private Limited, Gurgaon to undertake the assignment of formulating the Master Plan of Ganderbal (2012-32).

Better economic alternative for rural Kashmir :by Mr. Riyaz Ahmed Wani GENESIS OF ECONOMIC CRISIS IN J&K Post 1947, Kashmir economy had a cataclysmic start. The state embarked upon its development process by the enactment of Big Landed Estates Act 1949-50, a radical land redistribution measure which abolished as many as nine thousand Jagirs and Muafis. The 4.5 lac acres of land so expropriated was redistributed to tenants and landless. Land ceiling was fixed at 22.75 acres. This was nothing short of a revolutionary departure from a repressive feudal past. And significantly enough, it was preceded or followed by little or negligible social disturbance. This despite the fact that no compensation was paid to landlords. More than anything else, it is this measure which set the stage for new J&K economy. In the given circumstances, the land reforms proved sufficient to turn around the economic condition of the countryside with the hitherto tenants in a position to own land and cultivate it for themselves. However, the reforms though unprecedented in their nature and scale were not only pursued for their own sake but were also underpinned by an ambitious economic vision. Naya Kashmir, a vision statement of Shiekh Muhammad Abdullah, laid down more or less a comprehensive plan for a wholesome economic development of the state. But the dismissal of Shiekh Abdullah’s legitimately elected government in 1953 by the centre changed all that. The consequent uncertainty which lingers even now created an adhocist political culture animated more by vested interest than a commitment to the development of the state.

The department realized the need of creating the first hand information long back in 1998 and prepared the Directory of lakes and water bodies using Survey of India Topographical Maps on 1:50,000.With the advent of satellite technology the study of these lakes and water bodies has become easier and the task of creating of information pertaining to these lakes and water bodies using latest high resolution data along with Survey of India Topographical Maps and other secondary information available with limited field checks/ground truthing has been carried out to provide latest information regarding the status of these lakes and water bodies.
