What does accessibility mean? Accessibility often refers to the quality of being easily reached, entered or used by people who have a disability. This section includes information on agencies that can help with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. What is Assistive Technology? Assistive Technology includes anything that can be used to assist, be adapted or rehabilitation items used to help those with disabilities. For example: Wheelchairs, walkers, adaptive utensils, screen enlargers, hearing aids, cognitive computers/electronics, assistive devices etc. In this section, you will be able to find companies that sell or modify these items.

What is Caregiving? A caregiver is ANYONE who provides any help with activities of daily living or companionship to a person with some type of physical or mental disability or any type of illness.
A caregiver does NOT have to live with the person. That person could be a family member, neighbor or anyone that helps provide care to someone.
Care could mean helping with shopping, cooking, cleaning or any type of personal care. It could also mean watching a movie, playing a game or reading a book to someone.
Respite Resources: What is Respite? Respite is short-term relief for a caregiver. Respite is support for the caregiver. Caregiving is very demanding physically, mentally and emotionally. That is why respite is available as a resource in order for the caregiver to take advantage of a break from the stress of caregiving.

General food needs: This section explains SNAP benefits, food pantries and food delivery services.
Congregate Meals: A center provides healthy nutritious meals at a posted time in a central location. Centers are located all over Delaware. Residents ages 60 and above can eat this meal free of charge. Any person that goes with them under the age of 60 can still take advantage of this meal; however, they will need to purchase the meal.

What is ERS or PERS? Personal Emergency Response System Who might need a PERS/ERS? There is no perfect picture of someone who may need this, as each person is different and may have different needs. It could be someone who lives alone and is worried about a health emergency when there is no one around or person at risk for falling.
What types are there? There can be home based, mobile, monitored, call routing, response centers, cybersecurity---there are many possibilities and that’s what makes it flexible for the needs of the individual. It can be worn, waterproof and connectible with family. The following companies offer installation and monitoring of PERS systems in your home or apartment. There is a onetime cost for installation and monthly costs to maintain the system. By pressing a button on a device worn on your wrist or around your neck, you can signal that you need emergency help and/or assistance from previously identified family members, neighbors or your local 911-response team.
