Article 14 Spring 2014 Menlo College Campus News The Oaks Press ‘ April 21st to April 27th 2014

Memories…‘ Aloha Menlo College,

I would like to direct the message this week to the Inspirational Seniors. As we are less than 20 days away from Quote graduation, I simply want to say, live the rest of our time here to its fullest. We've built so many memories thus far and I know many more will be made in the next "I'd rather have a few weeks. With so many fellow classmates receiving life of 'Oh Wells' job offers, I am so proud of you all! For those of you then a life of 'What who are searching or waiting to hear back from Ifs'" your interviews, I know you will be successful. Something about our class is special, and that's why I know we will all be great at whatever we decide to do.

Don't leave anything behind here except your legacy. Everything you wished to accomplish here at Menlo.... DO IT! Everything you wished to do while in the Bay Area... DO IT! Every memory you wished to build... DO IT! I look forward to the memories we will make at our Senior Trip. Thank you Carlie for planning it! Have an awesome week, Menlo.

A Message from the Peer Counselors The Power of Positive Thinking

As the school year comes to an end there is a lot to be excited about; graduation, summer, going home, vacation, and a break from school are all things to look forward to! Unfortunately we have a couple of very stressful weeks ahead of us. It is very easy to get caught up in everything that needs to happen before the end of the school year. There are papers, finals, and presentations for students and a lot of grading for teachers. It seems as if this place turns into one giant ball of stress. When the stress sets in it is very easy to start thinking negatively and to look for the bad in every situation. This is natural to do when we are overwhelmed. Looking at the negative is not the best way to go about our last couple weeks of school. Many authors write about the “law of attraction”. This theory when applied to thoughts is that positive thoughts lead to more positive thoughts and positive things end up following. This also goes for negative thoughts leading to negative actions. Positivity is contagious! Something that has had me thinking lately is how easy it is to look for the bad in a situation. What I did not realize is that it is just as easy to look at the good in a situation. Positive thinking might not necessarily lead to an increase of positive things happening for you, but it can lead to a more positive outlook overall on situations that seem to be very stressful. This can decrease stress which decreases cortisol levels in our bodies. This decrease in cortisol can lead to better sleep at night and overall, a more restful mind. So don’t get caught up in negative thinking when you are stressed out. Instead, try thinking positively (as cliché as it sounds). You might surprise yourself.
