Please visit Intel's Support page at http://www.intel.com/go/ssdsupport/. 4 Copyright © Acronis International GmbH, 2002-2018 2 Disk cloning and migration This operation copies the entire contents of one disk drive to another disk drive. This may be necessary, for example, when you want to clone your operating system, applications, and data to a new, larger capacity disk. In this section General information ................................................................................... 5 Preparing for migration ............................................................................ 10 2.1 General information You might find that your hard disk does not have enough space for the operating system and installed applications, preventing you from updating your software or installing new applications. In this case, you have to transfer the system to a higher-capacity hard disk. To transfer the system, you must first install the new disk in the computer. If your computer doesn't have a bay for another hard disk, you can temporarily install it in place of your CD drive. If that is not possible, you can clone a hard disk by creating a disk image and recovering it to a new hard disk with larger partitions. Warning! If you clone a disk with Windows to an external USB hard drive, you will not be able to boot from it. Windows does not support booting from external USB hard drives. Please clone to internal SSD or HDD instead. For best results, install the target (new) drive where you plan to use it and the source drive in

  • Chapter 19 RECOVERING DIGITAL EVIDENCE from LINUX SYSTEMS
Chapter 19 RECOVERING DIGITAL EVIDENCE FROM LINUX SYSTEMS Philip Craiger Abstract As Linux-kernel-based operating systems proliferate there will be an in evitable increase in Linux systems that law enforcement agents must process in criminal investigations. The skills and expertise required to recover evidence from Microsoft-Windows-based systems do not neces sarily translate to Linux systems. This paper discusses digital forensic procedures for recovering evidence from Linux systems. In particular, it presents methods for identifying and recovering deleted files from disk and volatile memory, identifying notable and Trojan files, finding hidden files, and finding files with renamed extensions. All the procedures are accomplished using Linux command line utilities and require no special or commercial tools. Keywords: Digital evidence, Linux system forensics !• Introduction Linux systems will be increasingly encountered at crime scenes as Linux increases in popularity, particularly as the OS of choice for servers. The skills and expertise required to recover evidence from a Microsoft- Windows-based system, however, do not necessarily translate to the same tasks on a Linux system. For instance, the Microsoft NTFS, FAT, and Linux EXT2/3 file systems work differently enough that under standing one tells httle about how the other functions. In this paper we demonstrate digital forensics procedures for Linux systems using Linux command line utilities. The ability to gather evidence from a running system is particularly important as evidence in RAM may be lost if a forensics first responder does not prioritize the collection of live evidence. The forensic procedures discussed include methods for identifying and recovering deleted files from RAM and magnetic media, identifying no- 234 ADVANCES IN DIGITAL FORENSICS tables files and Trojans, and finding hidden files and renamed files (files with renamed extensions.

  • “Log” File in Stata
Updated July 2018 Creating a “Log” File in Stata This set of notes describes how to create a log file within the computer program Stata. It assumes that you have set Stata up on your computer (see the “Getting Started with Stata” handout), and that you have read in the set of data that you want to analyze (see the “Reading in Stata Format (.dta) Data Files” handout). A log file records all your Stata commands and output in a given session, with the exception of graphs. It is usually wise to retain a copy of the work that you’ve done on a given project, to refer to while you are writing up your findings, or later on when you are revising a paper. A log file is a separate file that has either a “.log” or “.smcl” extension. Saving the log as a .smcl file (“Stata Markup and Control Language file”) keeps the formatting from the Results window. It is recommended to save the log as a .log file. Although saving it as a .log file removes the formatting and saves the output in plain text format, it can be opened in most text editing programs. A .smcl file can only be opened in Stata. To create a log file: You may create a log file by typing log using ”filepath & filename” in the Stata Command box. On a PC: If one wanted to save a log file (.log) for a set of analyses on hard disk C:, in the folder “LOGS”, one would type log using "C:\LOGS\analysis_log.log" On a Mac: If one wanted to save a log file (.log) for a set of analyses in user1’s folder on the hard drive, in the folder “logs”, one would type log using "/Users/user1/logs/analysis_log.log" If you would like to replace an existing log file with a newer version add “replace” after the file name (Note: PC file path) log using "C:\LOGS\analysis_log.log", replace Alternately, you can use the menu: click on File, then on Log, then on Begin.

Informatica Fast Clone FAQs © 2011 Informatica Corporation. No part of this document may be reproduced or transmitted in any form, by any means (electronic, photocopying, recording or otherwise) without prior consent of Informatica Corporation. Abstract This article describes frequently asked questions about using Informatica Fast Clone for bulk data movement. It includes information about Fast Clone features and some common errors. Supported Versions ¨ Informatica Fast Clone 6.6 Table of Contents General Questions............................................................... 2 Configuration Questions........................................................... 5 Questions about Oracle Sources...................................................... 7 Troubleshooting................................................................. 8 General Questions What is Fast Clone? Fast Clone is a high-performance cloning tool for moving bulk data from Oracle databases to heterogeneous destinations, including relational databases and flat files. The optional DataStreamer component can stream data to Greenplum and Teradata destinations, which avoids intermediate storage use and reduces I/O. You can use Fast Clone for any of the following purposes: ¨ Cloning Oracle databases. ¨ Moving Oracle data to another type of platform. ¨ Migrating production data into a test environment. ¨ Initially loading data into tables that will be the targets of Informatica Data Replication jobs, before starting transactional data replication. In this case, Fast Clone is a high-speed alternative to the Data Replication InitialSync component. What is the difference between the direct path unload and conventional path unload methods? Fast Clone has two methods of unloading data from an Oracle source: direct path unload and conventional path unload. The direct path unload method is much faster. It extracts source metadata to physical files and reads Oracle data files directly. Also, it can stream data to Greenplum and Teradata destinations.

  • 11 Creating New Variables Generate and Replace This Chapter Shows the Basics of Creating and Modifying Variables in Stata
11 Creating new variables generate and replace This chapter shows the basics of creating and modifying variables in Stata. We saw how to work with the Data Editor in [GSM] 6 Using the Data Editor—this chapter shows how we would do this from the Command window. The two primary commands used for this are • generate for creating new variables. It has a minimum abbreviation of g. • replace for replacing the values of an existing variable. It may not be abbreviated because it alters existing data and hence can be considered dangerous. The most basic form for creating new variables is generate newvar = exp, where exp is any kind of expression. Of course, both generate and replace can be used with if and in qualifiers. An expression is a formula made up of constants, existing variables, operators, and functions. Some examples of expressions (using variables from the auto dataset) would be 2 + price, weight^2 or sqrt(gear ratio). The operators defined in Stata are given in the table below: Relational Arithmetic Logical (numeric and string) + addition ! not > greater than - subtraction | or < less than * multiplication & and >= > or equal / division <= < or equal ^ power == equal != not equal + string concatenation Stata has many mathematical, statistical, string, date, time-series, and programming functions. See help functions for the basics, and see[ D] functions for a complete list and full details of all the built-in functions. You can use menus and dialogs to create new variables and modify existing variables by selecting menu items from the Data > Create or change data menu. This feature can be handy for finding functions quickly.
