\Big12pdcusersctheisen Ootb FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sept. 3, 2002 Big 12 Conference Football Previews For Sept. 7 Games DALLAS-Iowa State gets to enjoy the view from the top of Big 12 Conference football standings for at least three weeks. The Cyclones downed Kansas 45-3 in the second-earliest Big 12 opener in history last week in Ames, Iowa, and there are no more league games until ISU hosts Nebraska on Sept. 28. That’s the only conference contest that weekend until all 12 teams go interleague on Oct. 5. Still, 47 conference games remain, and there are 32 non-conference encounters before Sept. 28, so Big 12 teams will be far from bored. Saturday’s slate and the 11-game menu all outside the loop on Sept. 14 are the most- contested weekends in Big 12 play this season. For the first time in history, non-league games outnumber confer- ence encounters as there are 51 contests outside Big 12 activity in 2002 and 48 intraconference clashes. The Sept. 7 slate features one of the most varied and relatively-unplayed group of series since the founding of the Big 12. The 11 opponents come from eight different conferences (Big East, Gateway, Mid-American, Moun- tain West, Ohio Valley, Southeastern, Sun Belt, Western Athletic), a football independent (Utah State), and three Division I-AA foes (Northern Iowa, Samford and Tennesse Tech). Ten of these teams have combined to play 151 total games previously against Big 12 schools, but four have played five series games or fewer. SMU meets Texas Tech at Gerald Ford Stadium in the Mustangs’ 311th tilt with current Big 12 members. Here are the capsule previews for the 11 games involving Big 12 Conference teams Saturday. Mallory Men Bullet Points To: Loyal Mallory Men From: Andy Curtin RE: Letters of Recommendation for Bill Mallory’s Candidacy for College Football Hall of Fame My name is Andy Curtin. I created and ran the Legends Poll for 10 years from 2005 through 2014. We had 23 retired coaches participate over those years. Of this group 21 are in the HOF. Bill Mallory was a charter member and served all 10 years as a voter in the Legends Poll. The roster of Legends Poll coaches is stunning in its composition. Bobby Bowden, Tom Osborne, Frank Broyles, John Cooper, Fisher DeBerry, Bo Schembechler, Terry Donahue, Vince Dooley, Pat Dye, LaVell Edwards, Don James, Hayden Fry, John Ralston, Dick MacPherson, Don Nehlen, John Robinson, Bill Snyder, R.C. Slocum, Gene Stallings, George Welsh, Frank Kush, Bobby Ross…and Bill Mallory. Bobby Ross and Bill are the two non-HOF coaches. Everyone of our Legends Poll coaches believe Bill Mallory belongs in the HOF. However, since 2010 no coach has been granted a waiver for eligibility from the 60% winning percentage minimum rule, despite the fact that there are 31 non-60% coaches in the HOF with over 200 coaches enshrined there. I have been lobbying for Bill for over 4 years now to have the National Football Foundation reinstate the waiver procedure. I believe we have our best chance now because I have created an Index called the Curtin Coach Index (CCI) which I have provided to you herewith. It awards points to coaches for playing Top 25, Top 10 and Top 5 teams and is then averaged by years of service.

TEXAS A&M FOOTBALL Postgame notes: No. 24/25 Texas A&M at Texas Tech Saturday, October 8, 2011 * Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, Texas AGGIES PREVAIL WITH ANOTHER HUGE SCORING OUTBURST VS. TECH Texas A&M won its third straight game against the Red Raiders on the strength of another big scoring night. In the three‐game winning streak, the Aggies went over 40 points in every game and averaged 46.3 points. A&M’s 45 points tonight were the second‐most ever scored by the Aggies in Lubbock, behind only the 52‐point outburst in 2009. It’s the first time A&M has won three in a row against Tech since the early 1990s when A&M won five straight from 1990‐94. It’s also the first time A&M has won consecutive games in Lubbock since 1991 and 1993. It’s the third time A&M has won consecutive games in Lubbock since the Bear Bryant era in 1950s. NO TAKEAWAYS, NO PROBLEM The Aggies couldn’t muster a takeaway for the fourth straight game, while withstanding a school‐record 105 offensive plays by the Red Raiders (old record was 99 plays by Texas in 1968). ANOTHER UNIQUE DOUBLE FOR TANNEHILL Quarterback Ryan Tannehill passed for 188 yards, which pushed him past the 3,000‐yard plateau in career passing yards. According to FX research, that makes Tannehill the first NCAA Football Subdivision player with over 3,000 passing yards and 1,500 receiving yards in his career. It is Tannehill’s second unique double: He is also the only FBS player with a 400‐yard passing game (447 vs.
