John Kieffer came to photography and writing in a round- PROPERTY OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERSabout way. Growing up in Iowa, he was always PROPERTY interested in OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERS Colorado and was able to attend Colorado State University to study zoology. Still in search of mountains, he received his master’s degree in entomology from Washington State University. Eager to return to Colorado, he visited Boulder and decided this was where he was going to live. After eight years of sci- entific research related jobs, he took the plunge into photog- raphy and writing. When buying a 4 x 5-inch view camera, it was suggested he become a photographer’s assistant, as a PROPERTY OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERSway to learn his new craft. Such an invaluable PROPERTY experience, OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERS he wrote his first two books entitled, The Photographer’s Assistant, one before the digital revolution and the second one after. John has photographed many commercial and edito- rial assignments, both in the studio and on location, while photographing for major photo agencies. This led to his third book, Mastering Nature Photography. When asked to photograph Boulder, Colorado: A Photographic Portrait for the first time in 2006, it was a dream assignment. This book was followed by , Colorado: A Photographic Portrait in PROPERTY OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERS2007.
