  • Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships
DIVISION I WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2015 Championship 2 History 5 All-Time Results 19 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS California takes its fourth title in the past seven years: Consistency is everything. One national championship is nice, but can be written off as a fluke if if the success is not sustained or predicated. To be in the conversation year in and year out, as Cal women’s swimming and diving head coach Teri McKeever puts it, is the key. For years, McKeever worked to find that success. It came gradually. She was in her seventh year with the Golden Bears before the squad was able to crack the top five in the NCAA Division I national championship meet. It got better, a lot better in fact. Approximately $10 million in donor funds over the year built facilities and scholarship funds suitable for a championship-caliber program. Only once the 2005-06 season has Cal finished as low as fifth in the nationals. And since winning its first national championship in 2009, the Golden Bears have finished no worse than third. “We started to have some success, and I think quality people attract quality people,” McKeever said. “I am very proud of the consistency of the program. To me, that’s the sign of a program ... a philosophy ... a belief ... that a group of women can come in and be their best year after year.” This year’s national crown is Cal’s fourth in the past seven seasons. Consistency? McKeever and the Golden Bears have it all right.

p.1 STANFORD UNIVERSITY PROJECT: Bob Murphy Interviews INTERVIEWEE: Richard Quick Robert W. Murphy: [0:01] Hello again everybody, Bob Murphy here with another chapter, wonderful chapter in the entire history of Stanford Sports, and its a chapter that is quickly, at this point, coming to a conclusion. And a lot of us are unhappy about that but there are family responsibilities and other considerations in life. [0:18] But Richard Quick after one of the all time stays at Stanford and the record that he has accomplished is moving on. And Richard, we always have fun talking anyways [laughing] so we might as well let other people listen into it. [0:33] Lets go back to the beginning, lets go back to the beginning. Women's swimming. Women's Sports. You were coaching at the advert of all this. I remember, gosh, way back in the old days here in the Bay Area, and Curtis and Joyce McCrae, and I mean way back, Charlie Saphon, the Fairmont Hotel and all of that. [0:51] But they had no place in intercollegiate athletics. They do now coach, and you've had a lot to do with it. Richard: [0:59] Quick: I've enjoyed it Bob, but you know title nine changed things for women's athletics. And I was involved in it at the beginning of the real implementation of title nine and, by the way Bob, I just want you to know Stanford has done Title nine right, in that, they've expanded women's sports without dropping men's sports.

A USMS Swimmer magazine supplement Pacific Masters Swimming September-October, 2009 n e w s l e t t e r Coach of the Year Pacific Masters has done so well because of the Michael Moore, PMS Chair coaches that work with us. Linda Gilchrist, AAM, Ray Laughlin, SMMM, Mike Lynch, PCAM, Daniel Redosko and Mary Ann Nygren, TVM, started out very slowly and carefully, I again started having left shoulder Jay Christianson, CVAS, and Dana Kirk, SPAS pain. Coach noticed what I was doing wrong with my stroke, something were the nominees for the 2009 Pacific Masters no other coach had been able to do. All through 2008 he worked with me Swimming Coach of the Year. Linda Gilchrist was extensively and through his coaching, I was able to perfect a swimming chosen as the Coach of the Year for the great work technique that allowed my to not only swim pain-free, but actually swim she has done over the last thirty years with Alameda photo: Nancy Ridout better times than I had ten-years earlier! The culmination of my recovery Aquatic Masters. was when I won first place in the Men’s 65-69 400 Meter Freestyle (short Linda Gilchrist, AAM course) at Walnut Creek in October 2008.(BL) Pacific Masters has done so well because of the coaches that work with us. From the nominations for the Coach of the Year, I took a paragraph Coach attends clinics on a regular basis and gives us some of the best most that best exemplifies what made this coach special in the eye of the writer.
